So parents in other countries don't care if their young children watch adult content (e.g., TV-R/TV-MA)

I've talked to lots of parents from all over the world and none that I know want their children watching adult content. There are international rating systems so it's definitely not a local custom.

Thanks jorm -- I'll look at this this weekend.

FWIW, XMLTV does actually contain ratings info.

Also the zap2it date direct access can download a 2-week schedule in ~35 seconds, the decompression is very quick, and opening the XML documnet and parsing is also quick. The XMLTV grab process took over 360 seconds and GB-PVR still has to parse that. A direct zap2it interface would seem to be a good enhancement. A little more work to connect all the dots but no more so than the MDB structure in use with the current program.

Most of the time it doesnt. It does in the US, but very rarely anywhere else. Because of this, I wont be building any functionality in the core of GB-PVR that relies on it.

This is where the Danes get their xmltv from: http://tv.tv2.dk/tv/?Region=1&KanalID=1&...&Periode=2

There are no ratings on the tv programs. Violient movies sometimes have "inapropiate for small children" in the description, but there's no special tag or chip that stops anyone from watching it. The news is usualy ten times worse anyway.

I doubt people here think it's a problem (otherwise it would be an isue), that doesn't mean that people don't care about their children though.

I didn't say people want, and encurrage, their children to watch "adult content", only that the content itself and the level of acceptance is different around the world. It's very different from country to country even in Europe.

Notice that I only said that the wether a blocking feature is important also depends on where you're from, not just if you have children or not. If it doesn't get implementet right away it's not because people don't care about their (maybe future) children. I'm sure the feature will arrive sometime though, 'cos it seems like nothing can stop gbpvr (except maybe OT talking in the forums, so I'll stop now Wink ).

It seems like we are making some progress. Thanks Jorm (and others). The key to me is still the live TV. I want to disconnect the cable from the TV and just feed it by the MVP. I would love to be at least able to block some on Live TV (or delayed live on the MVP). It would then be great to be able to block show titles, so my son will quit watching some shows that would not get "vchiped" when we leave the room. I know that this is really the parents job to keep the kids in line, but it would make things a little easier.

come on we all watched a little adult content when we were growing up it didnt hurt anybody. if they're old enough to figure out how to use this, they old enough to watch a little adult content. and i dont mean porn, i mean like i saw alien when i was 8 or 9, scared the crap out of me but im fine. i saw basic instinct too when i was about that age, and we just had a big laugh. no big deal.

OK I think it is time to let this thread die. I still would like some of the features listed above. I would just love to kill off some of the cartoons that are causing my son to use smart ass expressions that he is getting from the shows. Again, we teach him that he can't say things like that, but I would prefer to keep him from picking it up from a couple of key shows. BTW, a 6 year old can use a remote and an MVP.
