Let's get the good stuff out of the way above the fold. Raspberry Pi 2 is now on sale for $35 (the same price as the existing Model B+), featuring:

I ordered mine today, but it says shipping the 17th. It should have a nice performance boost which was always a big drawback for me, but it still won't be able to decode HD audio, but it is one of the better 1080i players out there.

'fraid so, it was a Christmas present that I've only just found time to experiment with. I got npvr running with it, but not optimised. I already have a job for it with a/d conversion and a few solid state relays.

I guess the bottleneck of a single core was always going to be a limitation although a gpu helps. Anything to speedup menu navigation helps the experience.

At least their site is back up after being overwhelmed this morning. Next day delivery it seems from RS.

It's ARM though so very unlikely. Personally I never use the x86 client anymore anyway, Kodi is much more stable as a client.

Regarding the post about being too soon, last time I bought 2 RPi's and never even used one of them, I buy these things too soon all the time. Let's hope this works out better.

the B+ model is fine once you over clock to 900 and turn off all the background crap and use xnewa only. Looks and preforms just as fast as popcorn hour

These are my Settings for the b+ and it works great. The temp limit throttles it back if it ever gets too hot have not had that problem. I got the tips from here and have been very pleased.

Change resolution to 720p
Reducing the Kodi user interface resolution to 1280x720p in Settings > System > Video will save memory it will make the system and menus a bit faster. Video will still play at full resolution (e.g. 1080p).
Also under appearance skin set the zoom to -4.

Could you not resolve the HD audio decode with the Wolfson Audio Card?

@gEd I had a quick look at the spec and can't tell but I don't think SPDiff can pass 8 channels PCM @192khz which is the problem.

@speed_freaks, sorry I only have the RPi B, (which I got close to the B+ release) and if I overclock it too much I crash which might explain the difference in experiences.
