In Windows it's only really protected mode software like drivers that can cause a system to reboot. If it was NextPVR itself causing a crash, it'd just cause NextPVR to crash.

Just because you notice it when you started using NextPVR probably just means you're now exercising a driver you weren't before, or NextPVR might be using a feature of the driver that wasn't previously being used.

Often when Windows reboots it'll add crash information to the event viewer specifying the faulting module etc.

you can also try nirsoft bluescreenview to see if there is anything useful in the minidumps. even with minimal understanding of what the dumps show, sometimes if you look at a couple you'll see a driver you can blame it on.

What I was thinking was that it might be a thermal issue, if h.264 is decoded in the cpu (rather than in the graphic card) it is working damn hard and could overheat if the cooling is not sufficient.

yep i was thinking overheating, especially if it ok and then barfs.
Maybe try running with the lid / side of case off for a bit and see if that helps.

Thanks Sub,

I've reordered my tuner priorities and I'll see if that improves performance. Maybe it's a driver issue.

CPU temp is only running at about 43' after about an hour of HD TV. It's a dual core G6950 Pentium LGA1156, it is a few years old but I think it is capable of HD video. It seems well able for anything else I throw at it.

I've pulled the Nova S2 card and am trying just the HVR-4400 by itself to see if that was an issue. I never have the problem with DVB-T it is only on satellite that I get the crash.

What other options are best for DVBS2 + DVBT2 capture, how many USB receivers can you pass through a USB 2.0 bus? I've a Shuttle SH55J2 which only has one PCI-e and one PCI slot so I'm limited with my expansion options. Anyone got a recommendation for a server setup?

Appreciate all the advice, thanks.

well if you've got deepish pockets, a Blackgold tuner might fit the bill.

I have the BGT3620 and it's been flawless for the last 3+ years.

Had a look at those before but the reviews weren't great. You've had no problems though ?

I'm thinking of setting up a dedicated server with a micro atx card which might relieve some of my problems but obviously I'd have the cost of building a new unit.

I'm running 3 usb tuners (dvb-c) on a powered hub without issues.
