You can disable it to see if it helps. You shouldn't encounter any problems having it disabled. (it was a work around for a problem that only some users encountered)

Many thanks for the quick reply. I set the EPG auto update to the next hour and will reboot now and wait to see. It seems to work for others. I don't like making changes without understanding the implications! (that's also why I am not a politician)
Cheers sub!
NPVR 2.5.9 in Windows 7 32-bit SP1 on Mac Mini (Bootcamp 3.2) (Core2 Duo 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM), Hauppauge Nova-TD USB in dual tuner mode and pctv nanostick T2 (290e) HD tuner for Freeview HD (uk-CrystalPalace DVB-T). Using System plugin.

I had forgotten all about this problem so rechecked my settings. I re enabled "Out of process recording" several month ago because one of my tuners occasionally suffered from the "Taking way too long to stop" problem it cured or worked around. I have disabled the standard EPG update and instead been using the manual -updateepgonly run by the scheduler at 6am and have not seen any missing EPG items since then. I will enable the standard EPG update but run at 6am to see if that works reliably.

First time poster, and I must say great work sub and everyone involved in the project, just had something to add to this. I'm using a fully patched 2.4.3 and was also getting incomplete epg update on one computer but not the other, only difference being the tuners, unchecked out-of-process digital recording and fixed it, but caused other problems. My fix in the end was to re-enable it and then change the device priority. The device I had at the top always reported low signal strength even though the picture was fine, so changed it to one that reported 100% signal, hope this might help some out there with multiple tuners, cheers.

I know this thread is very old, but I still see the same issues with 3.1.1 R1a. Thought it worth mentioning as the changelog said the way EPG is updates out-of-process was changed.

As NumberFive says this is an old thread but thought I would post that I was experiencing the same issue and solved it by disabling the out-of-process option also. Perhaps this should be false by default?

I've still not been able to reproduce this, or work out why some users have this problem.

Having it enabled provides some big advantages, making recording more stable and less prone to device problems etc causing problems for future recordings.

Just a note to say that this is still an issue for me in 3.4.8. I'd really like to use out-of-process recording for the increased reliability it brings.

Happy to provide whatever information, logs, EPG captures would be needed to help debug. Smile

(Sorry, didn't notice the thread title says 2.3.6 or I wouldn't have revived such an ancient thread!!)

I used to often have a problem but not since I started using EPG Collector and I now only download the EPG from the BBC Mux. One possibility is that NextPVR doesn't search long enough on each mux now there are many more channels in the EPG. I think I saw a setting in .ini file which sets how long it collects from each mux so it may be worth extending the time to see if that helps. As long as your problem was not with some of the Channel 4 channels which have had missing data recently.

It's [EPGScanSeconds] in config.xml. From memory, the default is 60 seconds.
