First thought - the recording service runs as the "localsystem" account. It probably doesn't access to your c:\users\ed directory.

Are the parameters correct in the NPVR setup? Previous message used {946} in the batch - note the parentheses.

I used to use IRSS and that worked with my MCE blaster but I don't think IRSS is being updated now. I also used to get the error you had and I think it's because of other programs taking over the blaster.

It works really well - though I think it lags a bit. I use an MCE blaster but it does have a USBUIRT built in compatibility. ***Note that if you do use this software that you may have to uninstall eventghost and any other remote software***. The support for LM Remote Key Map is decent on their forums.

Thank you for the suggestion on looking into LM Remote Key Map. I was able to get the Hauppauge Blaster to work with the STB and NPVR! So now I am using the Hauppauge Blaster and its software exclusively for tuning the STB and EventGhost/USB-UIRT pair for accepting all other commands associated with my HTPC. They do not seem to interfere - it may not be the most elegant setup, but it works!

I just set up IR Server Suite and my new USB-UIRT successfully and have them working in NextPVR. I came across a couple of the same issues that you did with IRSS. After a day and a half of beating my head against the wall I learned a couple of things that might help others.

1) I also was getting the "Failed to Learn IR Code" message immediately upon pressing learn. I discovered that it was because the app wasn't registering with the server (whatever that means). I was able to fix it by shutting down all IRSS apps, going to windows services and stopping and then starting the IR Server service. Then reopen Translator and your USB-UIRT will be able to learn. I had to stop and restart the service every time I had an error in Translator.

2) I also opened the debugger and connected to localhost within it before attempting to learn in Translator. If I got a message right away that I was connected and it saw my USB-UIRT, then I would NOT get the immediate failure message when I tried to learn in Translator. If I got a message that said "connecting" within the debugger without being quickly followed by the message that it had connected and seen the USB-UIRT, then I found that I had to stop and restart the service as I described above.

3) Once I got the service problem fixed, I still wasn't able to get the USB-UIRT to learn for another reason. When I set up a new IR command and pressed learn, it would just sit there telling me it was waiting for an input -- forever -- it would never time out. I discovered that unlike the poster of the most helpful instructions for setting up a USB-UIRT in NextPVR, I had to press and hold the remote control button for a relatively long time. It didn't work for me with a quick tap. Pressing and holding until I got the message that the command had been successfully learned was all it took.

Once I made the above adjustments and rebooted a couple of times along the way, it worked beautifully.

FYI, my setup is:

Vista x64
Hauppauge HD PVR
USB-UIRT
NextPVR
and now IRSS

I also had been using the Hauppauge blaster previously. It worked fine within NextPVR, but I found that even after fine-tuning all of the settings I still had a number of inaccurate channel changes. Finally after a few months of use, it stopped working accurately at all. It would skip digits and send multiple digits. I observed that from the number of pulses that I could see it sending that it was sending inaccurately (as opposed to my set top box just not reading all of the pulses). Glad to hear you were able to get your Hauppauge blaster working, but the USB-UIRT just might be worth your time if you can get it working. Best of luck either way.

Regarding the USB-UIRT, I use USBUIRTSend.exe, which I've had no problems with. I did remember having some issues with HIP, and found that on the internet (can't remember if it was easy or difficult to find). I have a copy if you or anybody needs it.
