I am a new user to NextPVR and am trying to use it on Windows 10 in a Parallels VM.

The only video decoder option I have is something called Microsoft DVT/DVD which is for H.264. I have no options for MPEG 2.

My tuner is the WinTV 950Q.

I was able to scan and find channels, but I can't get any picture.

Any suggestions of where to get an MPEG2 codec for Windows 10?

Thanks!

NextPVR doesn't include any decoders itself. It just list decoders already on your machine.

Most people use decoders that are installed on their machine by other applications. For example, I use a MainConcept MPEG2 decoder from the Hauppauge WinTV software.

Some people install the SAF decoder pack. Alternatively you could look the LAV decoders etc.

Thank you. I downloaded the media player codec pack 4.3.8 and was able to get it working!

Why can the Microsoft decoder be selected for H.264 but not for MPEG2? I get the same behavior in Win 8.1.

Back in Vista/Win7, the Microsoft decoder used to be usable for both, they changed it in Windows 8 to only do MPEG2 in their own applications, not in 3rd party applications. It still does H.264 in any application. I'm not sure why they knobbled it in this way. It was most likely due to the licensing restrictions.

This doesn't seem to be the case in Win 10. I manually edited config.xml to use the Microsoft decoder for MPEG2 and it works. Media Center was uninstalled when I upgraded so I don't think it is the "special" Microsoft decoder from before.

If other people confirm the same result, I'll enable it for selection in Win10.

Sorry cncb I can't confirm. When I tested manually adding it, I get no video. LAV works ok.

I will have to try with a "clean" install (not an upgrade from a PC with WMC installed). They do include "Windows DVD Player" in Win 10 which has to have some kind of MPEG2 decoder. I had issues before when I tried to use LAV Video decoder with my recordings.
