It's just for recording, will never watch live. Just need it to record a few hours every night, but, need it to work with multirecord. Anyone have a cheapie USB tuner for ATSC that seems to work with nextpvr and multirecord? Looking for brand and model.

For clarity, multirecord is when NextPVR is able to simultaneously record shows from all of the channels on a single frequency. Any digital tuner, including ATSC tuners, will record multiple simultaneous channels from a single frequency.

PS. Nobody ever got sacked for buying Hauppauge tuners (though you can probably find something cheaper). http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/p...ernal.html

Ok, cheap was the operative word. I already have a HDHOMERUN recording 6 channels at once which was not cheap and works great, just need one more tuner, this one cheap.

Also, you said "Any digital tuner, including ATSC tuners, will record multiple simultaneous channels from a single frequency". Yet, if I review the nextpvr changelog, I see just as recently as 3.4.8 this comment:

Changes:
- added support for multi-record on HDHR devices

Which implies, to me, that there is special coding, at least for some devices to make them allow multirecord. Perhaps it didn't really mean that, not sure. Nevertheless, only added that criteria to be very clear.

Yes device types need special handling but digital devices were a long time ago, that was HDHR Prime.

I'd look for an ATI Theatre Pro 650 on ebay. Dell branded versions are about $30 and work fine; they're a standard BDA ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuner. They come in PCI and PCIe versions but I can't remember which the Dell is. I have a Diamond and a Dell, one PCI and one PCIe and they both work in NPVR. You can get the driver from AMD/ATI, that's all you need.

Well, it sounds like it's irrelevant, any USB tuner is supposed to work so I can just look for cheapie USB tuner on Ebay. I want to keep one of my hdhomerun tuners free at all times, so, need another tuner to take over the duties on that tuner for recording only.

If you are implying that all hardware is exactly the same that may be one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read on this forum.

Hmm, ok, but, I did not really invent the idea. I asked what worked with multirecord, was USB, did ATSC, and, worked with nextpvr. Right? Why do people always want to analyze words in super picky ways and respond, all of which has nothing to do with the question asked I always wonder. That is ridiculous to me! I even pointed out that all must not work as hdhr just got recent support.

So, that was the context of the post, right? So, what did I hear back? Well, "Any digital tuner", then you added digital devices were supported a long time ago. Also, in the wiki somewhere, it listed a so called standard I forgot and basically said any tuner that works with that should be fine. So, in other words, no one really specified one that worked, however, you and the other guy said that essentially it shouldn't be an issue, right? So, that is the intent of what was said. Analyzing things that people say in one way communication for no reason other than posting picky things is not what is very useful. And almost insulting as well, why do these things? Do people really have nothing better to do?

You might as well say I am a moron, that's essentially the meaning of what you wrote. There is no reason for that kind of discussion. It was a simple question. Why would I even think of saying all hardware is the same!? Why would you even consider saying I might think that?
