EPG not updating

Greetings, I noticed that a day or so after my new NextPVR install all the TV Guide data went to (no show det). I see that if I manually update EPG through the channels menu it will populate again.

Now I notice some people in the forums talking about using Schedules Direct so this is leading me to believe there is no auto update method for the built-in Tv Guide EPG? Am I correct or can someone set me straight on the whole EPG situation?

NextPVR updates the EPG automatically each night.

It sounds like you're using the over-the-air ATSC EPG. Unfortunately in that part of the world they're only required to transmit about six hours of listings, which is all you'll normally get, and next to useless for a PVR. ie, you'll find it did auto update your EPG overnight, but those six hours probably ended about 7am this morning.

With a PVR you really need like a week of listings at a minimum. Most people in that part of the world opt for Schedules Direct, which can give you 20+ days of listings.

I suppose if you really want to try to get by with the ATSC epg, you could set your EPG update time to an hour or so before your common recordings start. if that isn't enough, you could setup scheduled tasks to run "nextpvr.exe -updateepg" at strategic times throughout the day. it'll probably mostly work, but will be prone to failure (always at the time of the most important, critical recording ever of your most favorite show without which you will just DIE)

that seems like a lot of work and peril to avoid spending $25 per year for reliable, supported, top-quality EPG data from Schedules Direct.
