Thanks for the time!

I have NPVR setup on my htpc machine that is connected to my family room tv. I would like to "extend" the service to my living room and bedroom if possible. I have done some looking and exploring on the NMT and PCH forum section, tried a few things but the installers are not working. So my question is this: I have a windows 8.1 tablet that I can connect to to either of the tv's. Is there any way to connect to the main HTPC and "extend" the database to this tablet using the NPVR software? I have tried kodi works ok but I don't like the PVR features as well as the NPVR software!

IF this is not an option what are my other options available?

any ideas suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

If you have got (or already know where you can get) a compatible NMT the installer was fixed just recently at this post http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post491721

if you want to use your windows 8.1 tablet you can just install NextPVR on it (same as the main htpc) then go in to Settings->Devices screen and tick the "Act as Client PC" checkbox. You'll need to share out your npvr data directory from the server, then add the UNC path on the client.
server: NextPVR 5.0.7/Win10 2004/64-bit/AMD A6-7400k/hvr-2250 & hvr-1250/Winegard Flatwave antenna/Schedules Direct
main client: NextPVR 5.0.7 Desktop Client; LG 50UH5500 WebOS 3.0 TV

@ jaggy - I don't have access to a nmt I would have to buy two second hand. Not a big deal but not really sure which one is best to get.

@johnsonx42-I do have npvr on the tablet as I was thinking about using it as the server PC. My issue is how do I create the server share on the hard drive? Would wmc server work? I do have a nas if that can be worked into the equation somehow.

On the server (the machine that does the recording) Use Windows Explorer and navigate to the NextPVR data directory ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...alledParts

Right click on the data directory and click on Share ... give the share any name you want such as " NPVR ". Configure NextPVR on the client machine as described at the bottom of ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...on.Devices

Edit: Allow npvr.exe through the firewall on the client. Allow npvr.exe, nrecord.exe and ndigitalhost.exe through the firewall on the server.

Graham - Thaks for the information. I tried some of this last night but I can see now where I made my mistakes... As far as the firewalls, I am using HDHR Dual thus I believe the firewall issues are taken care of...(I think, will verify)... Will keep you updated...

You can get the NextPVR interface on cheap devices with the webclient. Kodio+x-newa on lots of platforms or on some Samsung or LG players and TVs. NMT's might be cheaper on ebay but the h/w is going to be really "used".

I was successful on pairing the server with the client. Just waiting for an usb ethernet adapter (should be in the mail today, free from family) for an ethernet connection for the tablet. I am hoping that will eliminate the artifacts/grey screen I am experiencing via wifi right now. I did try a fire tv stick over the weekend but it was iffy at best for live tv, mp4 and mkv videos seemed to work fine. The 8.1 tablet has kodi on it and it works quite well, but the family is used to the NPVR software so I guess for familiarity sake I would like to stick with it... My biggest gripes with Kodi is it doesn't recognize growing shows like NPVR does, it doesn't seem to update the PVR backend information unless you restart kodi, you can't skip forward in Kodi (that I am aware of). Since I am in the learning/experimenting phases of expanding to clients in my system, I want to try the tablet first since that is already owned. I do own a Roku and got two free WD TV players, but from what I understand, you can't load Kodi onto any of them.

On my main HTPC I have kodi and NPVR installed, both work great, so I guess it is a toss up as what I want to do...

Anyone here have one a Matricom G-Box Q? WOndering how they work for live tv playback...

I'd suggest you try out the X-NEWA client in Kodi. It uses the same NPVR interface, allows skipping, etc. I'm using it almost exclusively with an RPi 2.

I have the X-newa installed in kodi but it doesn't want to skip for me, wrong setup?
