LOL ... No worries sometimes I confuse myself..... I guess I have to think about how I will do things going forward since the clients no longer support playing recordings transcoded to MP4.

MY RPI and NEXUS player will not play the MP4 even if I use X-NEWA but they play fine if I add them to Native KODI.

Post or link to Kodi.log you might need to set up a share or play them from webclient Video Library instead of recordings to see if it is the URL.

I will try it and get back to you .... It is a bummer that MP4 play is not supported I am looking for a consistent client across all platforms ... this might not be it ... I appreciate your help ... far too many variables right now and I support a multitude of PC users and want consistency across the board.

Observations.

1. The server Can play MP4 transcoded recordings fine in the NEXTPVR UI
2. PC Clients Show transcoded MP4 recordings but cannot play them ... maybe mp4 recordings should be filtered out of PC clients.
3. NEXTPVR KODI Plugin cannot play MP4 from recordings. In all Platforms
4. X-NEW KODI in Windows Can Play Mp4
5. X-NEWA in OpenElec or Nexus Player cannot play MP4.

As bad as not posting logs is blanket statements are just as bad because we can't confirm or deny . I just checked with OpenElec x-newa and an mp4 file played fine.

The logic is sound sub provided the link in webclient and the mp4 is played

Here is a log trying to play Criminal Minds.

The second log is playing the file through filemanager. It played fine in filemanager would not play in X-NEWA

What about webclient? Since you aren't using advancedsettings.xml to a share and you fall back to sub's pvr interface which forces mpegts

Sorry I drove you crazy (NOT) just kidding... you are correct .. I finally got X-NEWA to work using substitutions below also works on my Nexus Player. Looking at your log helped.

<advancedsettings>
<pathsubstitution>
<substitute>
<from>D:\</from>
<to>smb://DESKTOP-KNSC57B/</to> <!-- Note the difference between the usage of forward and backslashes -->
</substitute>

</substitute>
</pathsubstitution>
</advancedsettings>

Good basically x-newa playback is the same as Kodi playback when it comes to the share. That is why iso playback even give CD and BD menus.

I still think I could that http streaming will work with mp4 like webclient uses if i don't use sub's special ts streaming from recordings. I will add it to the next beta and see.

Ok, That's news to me. For a few years I have been playing transcoded ts -> mp4 recordings on my server with no issues, but this year I got another telly in another room and set up a PC client. Funny enough some recordings play OK on the client and others just give me a black screen. If I get the blank screen, I have used another player to play the recording. So I am assuming that attempting to play mp4's on a PC client is not going to be reliable?

It should work ok through the video library.
