Hello,

New to NextPRV here and was hoping to solicit a little help with a problem that I'm having.

On my client PC, when watching a show that is broadcasting in SD, the show will freeze after ~ 7-10 seconds. Seems to happen on multiple stations - the trigger is a SD broadcast.
I've waiting several minutes but the show never resumes. NextPVR is still responsive and I'm able to return to the menu/guide after the show freezes.
If I set the show to record, and then play it on the client (during or after recording) the show plays OK. Also, the same SD show works fine if I stream said show via web/VLC to the client.
Note that any shows broadcasting in HD seem to play fine at the client.

The server doesn't seem to have the same problem and will play HD & SD shows just fine.

Client and Server are both running Windows 10 and using the unlocked SAF v6.3.1 decoders.
I'm using a pair of HDHomeruns model HDHR-US.
All connected via Ethernet connections.

A Zip copy of the Log directory is attached.

Any help/suggestions/thoughts greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

/Todd

Hello again,

I setup a 2nd client PC and am having the same issue on this client - TV shows broadcasting in Standard Def freeze after ~10 seconds. These same shows play fine on client PC if recorded first and then played back.

I've tried messing with the settings pertaining to Live TV buffer & Timeshift Mode with no change in results : pointing the LiveTV buffer at the buffer from the server, changed Time based to EPG Based...

Log files from 2nd PC attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can you post a matching set of client and server files? Probably best to restart the recording service on the server before you reproduce this problem, so that the logs are clean.

Hello Sub,

Thanks so much for taking a look, very much appreciated...

Clean logs from both client and server attached. Wife informed me that she sees shows freeze that are also high def, it just seems to take longer.

I rebuilt her laptop with Windows 10 last night and installed NextPVR. Having same issue there as well, so that makes 3 clients that exhibit this problem. Maybe something that I'm doing consistently wrong across all machines...

Please let me know if you need any additional info.

Wired or wifi? NextPVR client can hang easily on a wifi error.

Martin

The 2 client machines (plus the server) are all GB Ethernet. The laptop is 802.11n... A D-Link DIR-655 sits in the middle of it all...

Hello Sub,

I've been trying some different things to hopefully narrow down my problem.

Seems that I have a freezing problem with any live TV shows across multiple client machines: high def programs also freeze, but they can take 10-15 minutes before freezing, whereas a standard def show will usually freeze in about 2 minutes. Any shows when watched live, on the Server, do not freeze.

First, I tried pointing the Live TV Buffer on the client to the server, with the same results (though nothing was written to the buffer when it was pointed to the internal disk on the client anyways).

Next I tried, on the client, doing a quick record of a show that would freeze, and then started watching the show after 10ish seconds. It doesn't freeze when watched this way. I can also watch, on a client, any show that has been recorded, without any freeze-ups.

Example logs from client & server attached back a couple of replies.

Some info on my setup if that might help:

Server: AMD Phenom X4 965 CPU; 8 GB RAM; Windows 10 64-bit; GB Ethernet. OS installed on SSD disk, recorded shows going to a separate 7200 RPM SATA drive.
Client: AMD Phenom X4 945 CPU; 4 GB RAM; Windows 10 64-bit; GB Ethernet; OS installed in SSD disk.

I have two HDHomeRun dual tuner HDHR-US devices, and am using an OTA antenna. BDA Compatibility Mode is set to NextPVR.

My Location is North Carolina.

All machines have unlocked SAF v3.6.1 installed, and are setup to use the CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD13) and LAV Audio decoders.

My computer HW, while getting a little long in the tooth (much like the local IT support here at home), doesn't seem to be overtaxed: At the moment I have 4 shows being recorded, I'm watching 1 live TV show on the server and my better half is watching a pre-recorded show on one of the client PC.

Server CPU utilization is at ~ 22%, network is ~ 8%, and the disk the recordings are being stored on is ~11-15% utilization.

Any additional info that would help? Sorry for the length of this post!

Many thanks.

I can recall posts that suggested setting this to "Other". I don't use HDHR so I am not reliable on this subject (not on most others, sadly)

I have an HDHR Prime and my BDA is set to NextPVR (always has been, in fact) with no such problems. I am also using the same decoders as you (PVD13 & LAV respectively)

Here is what seems odd to me - your server utilization numbers. On my A4-5000 (roughly 40% capability of your 965) my server's cpu utilization is between 1 - 2% and my network utilization playing an HD channel is between 2 - 3%. I am not sure what else is running on your server, but something is driving your server's utilization quite high. Are you running other applications? Using task manager, can you tell what processes are driving up the utilization?

Hi Graham - thank you for the suggestion. Yea, I've seen another thread suggesting to use the "Other" option as well. But for me "Other" isn't an option in my dropdown list on the HDHomeRun Setup program. I only have: Default, Easy HDTV DVR, For The Record, J River Media Center, Media Portal, NextPVR & WMC...

I've tried several of the options with no change in results...

Regards,

Todd
