Recording service appears to be stopping randomly

I'm experiencing a lot of missed recordings. It seems quite often the recording service is appearing to stop for no apparent reason. I say this because I'll check NPVR on my computer when I know a show should be recording and the little "n" logo in the lower right corner is white instead of red as it should be if recording. If I right-click on the "n" and click Re-start recording service, the "n" will immediately turn red and the show will begin recording.

Not sure what might be causing this?

your recording service dies every night during the EPG update, when it attempts to find an alternate recording of Blue Bloods: The Bullitt Mustang. I have no idea whether it's that particular recording, or if it's failing on the conflict alternative airing code in general (that's the first and possibly only recording in your update that is triggering a conflict).

I suggest you disable the "Look for alternative airing on conflict" checkbox (in Settings->Recordings) for now, and confirm that it resolves the problem. Assuming it does, the simplest thing will be to wait for 3.6.x and then turn the "Look for alternative airing" feature back on - if it fails again then, we can diagnose it and sub can provide a patch if it's a software error.

also, it might be worth checking in your event viewer, in the application event log around 2:22 am for the last few nights and see if any errors have been logged. Probably check the System event log too.

There is an item in the System event log from last night (overnight) that would appear to confirm what you said earlier:

The NPVR Recording Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 4 time(s).

Just wanted to post a quick note to confirm to those who have been helping me that last night's EPG update did not terminate the recording service. So all appears to be well. Thank you again!
