Well, I've reinstalled GBPVR yet again, and got rid of one message the "No Tuners are available with the requested Channel" one, only to get a new message the same one as reported in the thread below, i.e. "Failed to communicate with the recording service"
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ommunicate
While I have not yet found a solution to my own error, I trust sub does not mind me summarising the past solutions (to this error) of others in one place, hopefully it will help someone else. Apologies to sub if one or more have been fixed in a recent release.
There appears to have been the following resolutions to this particular error:
1. The recording service isn't running. Try rebooting.
As per sub's reply in this message:

2. For those with DIGITAL recievers, press the "map channels to EPG" button.
See e.g. sub's reply in these messages:

3. Install the CORRECT drivers for your card.
See e.g. sub's reply in these messages:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ommunicate
4. For those with TWO Sources in the EPG on ONE Card (e.g. Analog Tuner and S-Video (or Coposite) they should both be set to device #1
See e.g. sub's reply:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ommunicate
5. There is a Firewall (Windows or Norton) or even Norton Antivirus's WORM Script Blocking where you have to allow "Permit" GBPVR.exe and the GBPVRecording Service.exe permissions
See
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ommunicate
6. The Tuner/Capture Card is simply not compatible with GBPVR (although you MAY be able to use a Software Decoder).
See e.g. sub's reply:

7. In a very early incarnation of GBPVR, it appeared that unless WinTVCap (the capture driver) was in the same DIR as sub's. In Jan '04 Sub noted "tranquil's final problem seem to be WinTVCap was misconfigured. The link above should be find those with windows installations in different locations from mine...By default GB-PVR doesn't know where WinTVCap is installed, so it always starts out blank in the configuration. You need to use the browse button and find the executable". I am not sure if this is still an issue but it is likely this been fixed.
See http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ommunicate
My own windows folder is C:\WINNT. I thought this could be the problem, but sub noted "You dont have to use WinTVCap. The other option is to select Direct Record instead. This uses a recorder that is built into GBPVR." However Direct Recording does not work with GO700..devices.
8. You were trying FM radio. "When I try to play a station i get "Failed to communicate with the Recording Service". Not sure what the solution is to this? No LAME codec?
Cheers
k.
p.s. I notice someone else with a TVWalker has had this error too. Perhaps it's time to go the Hauppage Route...
Getting a bit tired :-(
