I have a cable box but if I scan with that connected I only get 1 analog channel 3 or 4. If I bypass the box I find many unknown physical QAM channels ie "Unknown 67.1" which is actually Cartoon Network. With Windows Media Center I used to be able to manually assign to each of these physical channels to their real name and also assign the correct listings. It worked just fine for me. Is there a way to do this with NextPVR ?

They typically don't broadcast and TV listings for QAM channels, so it'd be normal to get no listings. Most people in North America end up getting a Schedules Direct subscription for listings.

They're also not required to transmit channel names/numbers, which is why you get these 'Unknown 67.1' type of channel names. While watching this channel, you can right-click, and select 'Set channel EPG source'. In that window that pops up, you can enter a channel number and name to use. If you've got an EPG source, like Schedules Direct or XMLTV, then you can also select the EPG source for that channel.

Ok I see that you can in fact edit each channel manually it's name and select the EPG service etc. So If I get a Schedules Direct subscription I will also be able to map to the proper listings?

Yes. You can see a video of showing how to set it up here:
