I've been noticing some weirdness lately with my TV. First off, a few details. I use NextPRV, HDHomeRun Connect (the network one), and I have the HDHR addon installed. After a while of watching TV the screen goes black. At first, I can still hear the audio for a while but after a while it's just black screen and no sound or anything. If I switch between fullscreen and windowed sometimes I can get as far back as showing the guide but I can't go anywhere from there. Usually I can go anywhere and have to task manager out. I turned on debugging to catch it and when the screen went black I noticed that the OSD of the debug text (eg. CPU%, Debugging Mode Text, etc,) was all frozen too. Here's what I could get from my log. I hope it helps.

I did want to mention one more thing and assume its a different problem but want to mention it just in case. I have the c:\Temp folder set up for if I pause my show. I never do but I'm guessing there is an always-recording file in there just in case I hit pause. Every couple of days (3 at the most) I notice some lagging and notice I am low on disc space. When I check that folder there are hundreds of video files in there. Seems like when things are working right that there are only ever a couple of files in there but every couple days that folder is loaded up with GB of files and I have to empty it. I don't know if this is being triggered to save all the files in there once the TV crashes or it's something else. Thanks for the help.

I am also experiencing this along with another odd issue...... Win7 Pro, 2 HDHomerun primes using NextPVR within Kodi (Jarvis beta4) on several Fire TV's. The issue of a growing temp file on my system is happening to me as well (I have been manually deleting the temp files each morning in the meantime). Another issue is that I will "quick Record" via the red record button within the Kodi interface and this file starts recording to the temp folder rather than the "Default Folder location" where it is supposed to. This results in no "Recent Recording" of said file (In Kodi). NextPVR however sees the file within its native app (unless you empty the Temp file). The file now resides in the "Temp file" with NO folder and has NOT pulled any metadata. Perhaps related?....... On a side note, any "recurring" recordings act as they should (Records directly to the Default folder).

Hi,

This sounds similar to the problem I am having with Kodi freezing up. I run mine on RPi2 with Openelec but it sounds like a similar issue so maybe it's Kodi related?

I can also confirm that I have the same problem with the temp files, I have a scheduled task to run each night to delete them all otherwise they fill my HDD.

I have Kodi log files attached to this thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...di-freezes

I thought it might be due to the fact that I am streaming NextPVR across 802.11ac but it would be better if the MPEG2 stream just stopped rather than Kodi locking up.

Thanks,

Shane

I've wasn't able to reproduce it.

Before we look at Kodi, I'll need you to do some tests in NextPVR itself. Empty out that the live tv buffer directory, then start live tv on a channel, and just leave it on that channel, how many files do you get? You should get a maximum of 4. When you stop live tv, do those files go away? They should.

Then do exactly the same test, but in Kodi. Do you get a maximum of 4 files per channel, and do they go away when you stop live tv?

(after we establish this, when then revisit with more tests about the behave when changing channels rather than stopping live tv)

Results.......

First a little about my setup:

Backend: Windows 7 pro 64bit running....
2 Homerun Primes and a Homerun Extend (OTA antenna)
NextPVR version 3.6.6 updated (occasionally to see if changes were made)
Schedules direct Account for EPG data (xmltv file) within NextPVR
Plex version 0.9.14.6 (Public Release) with HDHR Viewer V2 vers. 05 (Live TV through Plex for remote viewing)
Java Rest Api (For xmltv file for Plex/HDHR Viewer) Drawing from zap2it account
HDHomerun Beta DVR 20150901atest1 (Kickstarter Version)

Frontends: Windows..... NextPVR native application for server
Kodi Jarvis Beta 4 (Not Nightly Builds) NextPVR add on
HDHomerun View
Plex Web version 2.4.39 HDHR Viewer Channel
VLC (For testing)

3 FireTV's (1st Gen.)..... Kodi Jarvis Beta 4 (Not Nightly Builds) NextPVR add on
HDHomerun View (updated)
Plex for Android app (updated) HDHR Viewer Channel

Nvidia Shield TV..... Kodi Jarvis Beta 4 (Not Nightly Builds) NextPVR add on
HDHomerun View (updated)
Plex for Android app (updated) HDHR Viewer Channel
Native AndroidTV TV app

2 Samsung S3's..... HDHomerun View (updated)
Plex for Android app (updated) HDHR Viewer Channel

2 Samsung Tab4's..... HDHomerun View (updated)
Plex for Android app (updated) HDHR Viewer Channel

( Not much of a "Fruit" guy :^)

What I found During the tests you asked for:

Using Native NextPVR app for windows.....

Select channel to view: Creates 4 complete files and 1 current... When current becomes full
It starts a new current file and deletes the oldest complete file, Until..... A new show starts on the same channel
even if the new show is the same name, now there are other files that reside in the temp folder even after exiting.
DOES NOT delete these files. (It appears that these files are complete recordings of what would be the next shows up to the point of exiting)
Left to continue through the next shows.... It repeats.

For instance:

Started stream on Channel 9 news (4 hours long) created 4 complete files and 1 current file for "news" in that folder.
When The "current" file fills to 6 minute 41 seconds... Starts a "new current" file and deletes the oldest "complete" file.
This continues for hours until Celebrity Name Game starts. Now the channel 9 news files continue this pattern even though it is a different show and
there is another "new current" file titled Celebrity Name Game within the temp folder along with the "news" files.
Celebrity name game ends and another episode comes on (back to back) Now I have yet another "new current" file titled Celebrity name game and
The 1st Celebrity Name Game episode is now a "complete" file (2.4 gigs of complete file) and the "news" file continue as if it was all the same show.
Allowed this to continue until the next show which happened to be channel 9 news again (midday)
Now I have another "new current" file for the news, the 1st Celebrity name game file (whole show 2.4 gigs), the 2nd Celebrity Name game (whole show 2.4 gigs)
and the previous still filling and deleting original "news" files. 8 files now reside in the temp folder.
I let this go through the next full news episode before exiting. Now 9 files reside in the temp folder ***PRIOR*** to exiting.

After exit:

The original "news" files.... 4 "complete" chunk files at 6:41 minutes and the "current" temp file (from 1st news broadcast) deleted themselves as normal.
However, the 1st Celebrity name game file(2.4gigs), the 2nd Celebrity name game file(2.4gigs), the 2nd News broadcast(4.66gigs) and what would be the 3rd
news broadcast (which I exited only 4 minutes into) still remain in the temp folder.

Changing the channel: Deletes all previous temp files created and starts over UNLESS a new show starts on that channel,
Then that additional file Does NOT delete and remains in the temp folder. (Same as above)

Recording a show: The file does not appear in the temp file, it goes straight to the default
recording folder, creates a master folder for the show, pulls the correct metadata and naming convention
and creates a thumb for the episode (acts as it should)

Hope this helps...
Let me know if you need any other testing.
Thanks in advance

Hi all,
To give this a special twist. I am having a similar issue.

Every day at 6:35 PM Eastern US while watching NBC Nightly News the NextPVR backend quits and tears down Kodi too.

I have checked and double checked. There is nothing scheduled to run at that time. The TV guide refresh happens at 8 PM. I could not find anything scheduled in Kodi either.
This is quite a beefy box for an HTPC. Plenty of HD space. SSD for the OS and a 3TB HD for data, 16 Gig RAM, Win10 OS. I cannot imagine what could bring this down to its knees......

Tonight I will watch a different channel and if that happens again, I will watch tomorrow night using NextPVR frontend.

I'll post the results then.

Cheers.

Using Kodi Jarvis Beta 4 (Not Nightly) On all platforms listed in my post above.....

Exhibits the same behavior as posted previously with the exception of recording a show (via the "red record button" not the guide)

When this method is used the recording does NOT appear in the default recordings folder like the native app does. This creates a file in the temp folder which grows until
the show has ended. Now it becomes a "complete" file within the temp folder (recording is complete but creates no master folder, draws no metadata, the correct naming convention
nor the episode thumb). It DOES show up in the "recordings" tab within NextPVR native app unless I delete the file not knowing someone recorded something. This results in the "Recordings" tab now telling me that it failed! (Duh... I just deleted it on accident unknowingly) This file must be moved manually and renamed correctly prior to emptying the temp folder in order to retain and draw the correct metadata.
