Hi reven, sorry if this has already been covered, but I have noticed that MyVideos still downloads movie information well, and must store this information in its database, as a show/movie picture appears, this seems to be no longer written to disk as a separate folder.jpg image.

Is there anywhere I can change this behaviour? It's just that when browsing the video directories with xrecord or the video library, the show images do not of course appear, and must be re-downloaded.

cheers,

nope, they go in the database, never going to change that, and if you have a video file say "D:\enterprise - 2x02 - carbon creek.avi" and a image called "D:\enterprise - 2x02 - carbon creek.jpg" and my videos finds this file, it will save the .jpg into the database and then delete that file. but for folders the folder.png/jpg/gif are left alone.

sorry but i designed my videos as me being the primary user, so how i would like it to work is how it works (i may add a few things people request, but only if i like them), and to be frank ifyou're using my videos, why would you need to use video library? and i dont use xrecord.

oh and the reason i dont use folder.jpg for downloaded shows (i never did this btw, if they were downloaded previously (before db) i saved them as "showname.jpg") is the downloaded images arent square. windows uses images around 200x200, and the downloaded ones are usually taller and thinner (eg 150x250ish).

errr theres 2 ways to read this post, read it as if im not being a dick. cos im not trying to be one, just be clear in how it is designed (which often sounds like you are being a dick Smile)

No, sounds perfectly reasonable reven. I'm in the process of developing some plugins which will be available soon although they too are designed primarily for my use.

I use only MyVideos too.... don't see the need for using the others (no offence to their writers).

Keep up the good work reven.

Fair enough - I must have periodically copied the showname.jpg to folder.jpg in the pre-database days. The advantage of this was that I keep most of my shows/movies in separate folders, which currently show up as blank folders in MyVideos, even though the contained movies of course have images.

I prefer seeing the images to seeing a bunch of folder icons, but I suppose I could change to a non-nested format or add each directory individually in the MyVideos config. It's a small thing I know, but hey - I'm gradually putting images for each of my four-hundred-odd artist folders so that MyMusic looks better (I have always of course scanned the album art), so this shouldn't take quite so long!

I am a bit concerned about your deletion of the showname.jpg files though, although this might just be a control thing - when I put a file on disk I expect it to stay there rather than being swallowed by a database. Also, and I know you don't use it, but I think xrecord now supports showname.jpg files for movies, so if I used this functionality in xrecord, using MyVideos could potentially break it. If you could make this deletion of pre-existing images optional, that would be great.

nah i like the deletion, and so far it hasnt caused an issue, i hate having lots of redundant files lying around (the thumbs.db file in windows bugs me) if enough people want this to change ill change it but, until then (or a major problem arises) ill keep it as is.

the problem with the no deletion is that everytime it sees the file it updates the database, and if i dont delete the file, every time you enter that directory it has to load image from the database, load the image from the file and store the new image in the database. and if you have an image for every episode in a season, eg 22 images this will slow thigns down quite a lot.
