unexpected error - when schedulling a recording (sometimes)

Hi,

i occasionally get an "unexpected error" Kodi popup when trying to record a programme either via the EPG or the OSD. i have 5 tuners in total, a quad DVB -s PCIe and that has the majority of my channels and a USB DVB t that has one or 2 channels.

I can watch live TV fine on all 4 tuners e.g i have run 4 kodi instances at the same time on different channels (& Multiplexes) an i can see that each tuner is being used by viewing the nextPVR status in the toolbar. Trying to record from one of the clients (that doesn't have the backend on it) still doesn't work, although no error message is produced (RPI open Elec 6), my main HTPC runs windows and the NEXTPVR and KODI RC1

This doesn't happen all the time, in fact I've only seen this happen 2 or 3 times in the last 2 months, mostly after i have rebooted the backend, i've included both NextPVR logs and Kodi

restarting the recording service, doesnt work either, However i can record using the NextPVR client, hope someone can help!

Anyone, any clues what's causing this? Happened again last night, I tried to schedule a recording for Sunday, got the same error.. I waited half an hour and tried again and it worked fine....

I know you can get a error scheduling a recording if Kodi loaded it's EPG, then at some later point NextPVR did it's EPG update (which deletes all the old data and inserts new data), then later Kodi schedules the recording of a show id, but that show id no longer exists in the database. I think that might be what happened in your logs.

Thanks sub for the response, would this be the case even if I press record from my remote control or the OSD e.g not the EPG? I guess it still uses the Show ID to tell nextpvr what to record hey? NextPvr schedules the EPG at 05:00 every morning, whereas Kodi updates its guide every 700 mins (my logic here is that the NPVR data is only changing once every 24 hours, why not just update Kodi once/twice every 24hours)

I guess to prove this theory, next time this happens if I reset the Kodi PVR database this will force a full refresh and it should clear the issue...

Ok just to close this off, I managed to replicate subs theory, by running the NextPVR EPG job and then starting Kodi, I think Kodi caches the data so it must become stale on start up... Having looked at my settings in Kodi further, The EPG was only updateing once a day. By "resetting the data" in Kodi's setting this solved the issue - I have now changed the Kodi to load the EPG more regularly- hopefully this will sort it!

A once a day update from Kodi would be ok, as long as it's soon after NextPVR's update. It's the gap in between those two events that are a problem.

Thanks Sub, i think the problem is that you cant set the timer for the EPG to update in Kodi, the only thing you can do is define the amount of minutes between each update. Presumably the timer counts down when Kodi starts up, so setting the timer to say 1440 minutes (24 hrs) wouldn’t necessarily mean it would get updated straight after Next PVR updates.....

I've set it to update every 3 hours (it wont update if Live TV is being viewed) and i haven’t seen the issue since (famous last words!)

margro has indicated that Kodi PVR refreshing is broken (again) http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2223578 It just doesn't seem stable enough to move to Jarvis IMO.
