Just checked some recordings and my friendly cable co thought it might be nice to give give a tutorial to record instead of TV. Grr. Hopefully this isn't going to be an ongoing battle and they never decide to insert some ads like YT does, it might kill my trusty HDPVR

More annoying than ever now that my PVR setup is a walk to my utility room and being headless I am guessing that it is picking my remote presses.

I'm guessing that you are getting your data feed via a cable box? Using a HD HomeRun Prime with cable card, the only menus I ever see are the ones that NPVR generates. Smile Does Rogers do something that precludes using the HDHR Prime?

In Canada legislated commercial choice freedoms that Americans get from the FCC are non-existent, so there is no clear QAM, no cable card and so we are pretty much stuck with what Rogers, Bell, Videotron or Shaw give us. That means the HDPVR and even then no legislation for firewire access etc. Arguably privacy and net-neutrality are protected better here.

About the only thing Canadian consumers have won is in 2017 we will be able to see American Super Bowl commercials during the game. Our cable co's are allowed to replace simultaneous American feeds with Canadian when the show are aired together (called sim-sub). Even that has it's own problems sometimes we miss the beginnings of shows when they forget to turn off the substitution.
