I've actually just spent the last couple of hours looking into this.

Is any chance someone in North America can do a 5 minute recording, of a show likely to have closed captions, and put it somewhere for me to do download?

Thanks.

So playing that recording, when you select to enable closed captions from the context menu, no CCs show up? What decoder are you using?

I didn't actually try the recording I sent you, with 3.7.7.
I'm still running 3.6.6.

But back when I tested 3.7.7, I was using the standard Microsoft decoder.
As I remember, the only decoder that worked was the MC, but that gives me other issues.

I'm pretty sure the Cyberlink decoder didn't work either.

My hearing impaired friend and I really appreciate your efforts resolving this.

I wonder if you have some package/component on your test system that isn't on most normal windows installs that allows CC to work for you on 3.7.7.

Was planning to revert to an older version this weekend (probably back to where client live tv channel changing worked) this weekend but holding off hoping you find a fix.

From your 3.7.7 change log
"- changes to the way closed caption data is processed in the background, to remove the risk of crashes in the Microsoft Line 21 decoders (even for users that weren't viewing Closed Captions)."

seemed to be the only change related to CC.

yeah I downloaded that video, tried it with 3.66, and subtitles worked. I installed 3.77 (third time now hehe), and yes, subtitles don't work with that video.

Here's how I have my codecs set up:

Video Renderer: EVR
Audio renderer: default (Recommended)
Music renderer: Default (Recommended)

MPEG2 Video: ffdshow Video Decoder
H.264 Video: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
HEVC Video: LAV Video Decoder

MPEG1 Audio: ffdshow Audio Decoder
AC3 Audio: Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder
E-AC3 Audio: ffdshow Audio Decoder
AAC Audio: ffdshow Audio Decoder
HE-AAC Audio: ffdshow Audio Decoder

Only use mapped audio decoders during .ts playback : Checked

I have the same config for 3.66 and 3.77 and so not sure why it wouldn't work with 3.77 when it worked with 3.66. I tried messing around with different decoders and splitters and all kinds of things, but nothing worked. (had to put it all back to get 3.66 to work again)

And if it matters, I use K-Lite Codec Pack. Latest version as of a week ago. 12.3.0

Ok, I think i'm narrowing down the issue.

I went back to 3.66 again. and Installed GrapheditPlus (30 day demo).

After a lot of trial and error, following the basic graph list from the logs, I got a working graph with Captions. All good Smile

http://imgur.com/a/0r9np (note, video is black in screenshot because my screenshot program can't pick up the overlay, but the subtitles show regardless)

Then I saved that Graph, and removed 3.66, installed 3.77 again.

Reloaded the graph, and sure enough No Subtitles.

I even tried throwing in that Tardis thing, though not sure where it goes in the graph. but seemed to make no difference, still no subtitles.

Now the only two parts of NPVR I am using is the TS reader, and the CC Extractor. Seems clearly this CC Extractor is the problem, because the TS reading works for both.

I have an idea to try changing the "NPVRCCExtractor.ax" from 3.66 and use it with 3.77 and see if that works ( no idea if that will break stuff or not, but worth a shot).

Hopefully this helps narrow down the issue.

Short update, Switching back to the 3.66 version of "NPVRCCExtractor.ax" *did* fix subtitles in GrapheditPlus. However, they were still broken under NPVR. I'm guessing that version isn't compatible with the 3.77 binaries. But that filter does seem to be at the core of the issue.

I notice the new "NPVRCCExtractor.ax" has a reference to "NPVRVideoMixer.ax", but that file isn't included in the install. Missing file?
