Has anyone got the Shutdown plugin working on Windows XP SP2 using the MVP. I get the option on the main menu and can make a selection but then it immediately fails with the error "Privilege not held"

I have tried chaging the run user for the GBPVR recording service to my own User ID (an Administrator); this fixed problems with not being able to access files on network shares in second and subsequent instances of the MVP server, but didn't fix the shutdown problem. I'm not a C# expert and anyway I don't have a copy of VS .Net 2005 with which to try debugging the plugin.

Any ideas?

You could try the PM plugin i wrote (well am writing) and see if the shutdown works for you in that one,

I'd be happy to test it. Where can I get hold of it?

Colin,

Thanks for the link. I tried the shutdown and poweroff options (btw what is the difference between these two?) but they both respond with the message: "Abandoning power change ..." The PC does not shutdown in either case.

Hmm, i'll need to read the src code again. Typical of me not to put in meaningful error messages.

Come to think of it, I will need to look and see what I have implemented so far as well. I know hibernate was implemented as tend to leave my machine in this state all the time. Don't forgot to check that you are switching to yes when you look to confirm an option, it can be hard to see as i need to put a larger border around the Yes|No options.

the message "Abandoning power change ..." is associated with deciding not to go with a selected option (based on a No response to the confirmation).

As for Poweroff and Shutdown, I really cannot remember the difference. I think it was along the lines of Shutdown will follow the specified shutdown policy as defined under the power management scheme and the poweroff would do as said.

I'll check the src tonight and enable the shutdown feature if I have not already,

Cheers,
Colin.

Ah!

OK, in that case, selecting Yes on either the Shutdown or Poweroff options results in the message:

Not implemented yet...

ah, ok, I'll implement these and update the thread

Colin.

Edit:
It will be more towards the end of the week before I have this ready. I implemented it last night but it was not closing down other apps. Probably not passing in the correct params somewhereSmile

System.Management v1.1 SP1 fails to enable privileges required to execute methods on WMI classes.

I have a fixed shutdown.dll if you want a copy.

@colin,
I can send you my fixed code if you want.

Sure, I can take a look at it., I think i am stuffing up the privileges somewhere - i'm not familiar with this area of windows coding,

Colin.
