I think most people rely on Windows Power Options to do this ?? I certainly do.
I don't know who or what else may be using the machine at any time.

Are there no problems with Windows shutting down the machine while recording due to inactivity (mouse, keyboard) ?

GB-PVR asks Windows to stay awake (and indeed wake up if needed) when it's schedules a recording.

It works fine for me, although some people have problems with recording devices when waking from standby/hibernate (Hauppauge USB devices spring to mind).
