Hi,

So new to this but I tried searching and didn't find too much along these same lines (though I could be blind).

Got an Intel 6700k with 32GB ram running windows.
I have the latest NextPVR installed and latest SAF installed using to record and watch OTA in USA.

If I open a recording in NextPVR directly and try to watch it, plays fine. However if I try to do any skips beyond a minute or so (sometimes even that causes) it will hang and eventually pop up and ask if I want to delete since I've watched till the end.

I found this out because I started using Comskipp and every time it'd get to a commercial to skip it would hang or do the above. NextPVR itself does not freeze, I can right click and hit stop etc. and all is responsive. So I took comskip off which lets me play the recordings so long as I don't attempt to FF/RR anything.

Thoughts on cause?
I am using the integrated graphics but an Intel 530 should be fine for this. I've got much older machine running WMC with an much much worse GPU performance wise hah.

I also don't seem to have this problem in Kodi, FF/RW/Skip works fine in that but honestly for my needs I don't need Kodi and rather just use NextPVR directly/alone without any other software.

I didn't grab logs yet because figure would see if anyone had anything obvious they know or I can try before anyone waste time looking at them.

It's probably the MPEG2 video decoder you are using. Is it LAV by any chance? The LAV video decoder does not play well with NPVR. Kodi uses a customized ffdshow decoder, I think. You could try ffdshow but you need to enable MPEG2 in the settings somewhere, and you may need to add NPVR to the whitelist to enable it. In the unlikely event you're on Win7, use the MS DTV DVD decoder, it's the best (but not available to NPVR in Win 10).

Funny you should say that. So originally I was using K-lite "standard" which only had the LAV decoder. I thought the same as you so I uninstalled that and switched to SAF. In that I have it set to the Cyberlink 13 decoder. That works slightly better vs. LAF in that occasionally the FF/RW will work but 95% of the time the exact same issue occurs.

I tried another decoder also in the same pack but it was the same results also.

As for my OS, currently it's Server 2016 but I have another one that is W10 with the DVD pack installed and the decoder is ONLY an option on h.264 not mpeg2

How so? You must have something funky installed that enabled it? I'd love to be able to use whatever MS uses because my WMC pc's work flawless. I just want to get off the older windows and not deal with hacked media centers that break after updates lol

Sub did have to add the option so I could type it but other then that it just has worked since I upgraded my laptop to Win10 pretty much on the day it came out. I try not to install funky things on this laptop because I develop on it too so the only thing that might make a difference is my blu ray player software or k-lite plus. In the k-lite tweak tool I do have the MPEG2 decoder set not sure if that means anything.

Not sure I understand what you mean by "Sub did have to add the option so I could type it"? So the option wasn't visible and he did something to make it show?

I think one reason you may have it though is "has worked since I upgraded my laptop to Win10 pretty much on the day it came out". So because it was on the previous windows it just tagged along with the upgrade. A fresh install won't have it unless someone has made a way to load it which is my hope.

That said, anyone with other suggestions on what I can try? I'd like to try the MS ones but how can I get them on a clean install 10?

After Win10 detection. NextPVR was removing

<DecoderMPEG2>Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder</DecoderMPEG2>

Now it keeps it.

Your problem might not be decoders, the skip problem might mean the time stamps are are bad. If you are using the HDHR (you really should have posted logs first, it makes support easier) you need to use Default not NevtPVR as the

I am using HDHR.
I'm not doing any encoding (which I recall reading some threads about timing issues but it was people using h.264 I thought) so why wouldn't setting it to NextPVR not work? Seems kinda silly given they made an option just for it. I'm using the latest 10/2016 from HDHR builds.

I'll try switching it though and make a new recording.

I just tested with the MS codec. It's a tad better but only allows short skips. Though this one doing a long skip instead of it ending and asking if i want to delete it seems to get out of sync and rewind but the progress still show the skipped spot lol.

FWIW a few ways to get the MS dvd pack installed does exist for clean installs. One is modifying a single registry entry before you install, another is loading it after the fact but properly so that it's included in updates going forward. It works on both W10 and Server 2016.

The file is public on MS servers BUT the catch is it's only legal to do IF you legit have a license (I.E. upgraded WHILE running MCE) and later did a clean install. They have a valid technical reason for why clean installs can't have it (has to do with tracking who can have it) but don't want to go too far OT. Just thought would share it though.

Guess I will try a new recording with the HDHR change next.

Thanks BTW for the helps.

***Update
So changing the HDHR to Default didn't help.
So far I'm where I was when I started off lol, just learned how to manually use MS codec hah.

I'll try to get some logs and share later. What tasks should I perform to gather them? Try to FF and when it asks to delete or during a recording, something else?

Yes it is silly but Silicon Dust didn't even respond to my post asking them to change it. I definitely want to see a log about the comskip issue since a skip is totally different then FF and works a lot more reliable. FF is a bit of a hack IMO.

If I am just clicking at a point further ahead in a show is that a skip or ff?
I took comskip off to remove it from the picture while working the rest out.

I record a show and say want to skip to the halfway point the issue happens.
