Since I posted, user rmeden who is a developer of XMLTV posted this:

Quote:The Sourceforge XMLTV project (which provides xmltv.exe ) has 3 Schedules Direct grabbers
tv_grab_na_dd -- uses legacy SD-DD service
tv_grab_sd_json - Uses SD-JSON service
tv_grab_zz_sdjson_sqlite - uses SD-JSON. Not in the last full release, in nightly and alpha-exe.

I find tv_grab_zz_sdjson_sqlite to be faster than _sd_json (it uses a sqlite database to cache values, not perl structures)

Normal Distributions: http://files.xmltv.org
Nightly Source http://snapshot.xmltv.org ( doesn't really help windows users)
alpha-exe http://alpha-exe.xmltv.org

Based on this, I'd try XMLTV before mc2xml because it sounds more developed. I've only used mc2xml and then only very lightly as a guide for live TV in Kodi using IPTVSimple from my HDPrime. But, it works.
HTPC: Optiplex 7010, HDHR Prime/Avermedia Duet A188, NPVR 4.2.5, Win10 Pro

Thanks Mike. I'm happy with the way it works now. I only mentioned the difference, on Win7 I couldn't login to SD with legacy SD-DD but could with the SD-JSON (but copying the file to the XP machine, nPVR had problems), and on XPx64 I couldn't login to SD with SD-JSON but could with SD-DD and the file generated by SD-DD worked on XP with nPVR just fine, because it seemed notable.

You have to "Import" the backup files under Settings > Recordings screen!

There is a curious problem tho. My Tivo and Schedules Direct show a channel 751 as does my HDHR3. In HDHR3 I scan the first device and get a list of channels and mapping. Channel 751 is there. I go to nPVR, Settings>Devices and look at the corresponding HDHR device channels but 751 is missing. I hit HDHR channel scan, get a Scan Complete and a list of channels and 751 is in the list, I hit OK out and again see HDHR Setting channels but 751 is not among them. I close nPVR, reopen, 751 is neither in pinned channels All Channels nor in Setting>Channels. Meanwhile Tivo has 751 playing American Heroes.

Thanks Chris. I did and there are now many pending recordings. I had already entered some. Now my pending recordings are no longer in chronological order. Very odd. No apparent logic to the order.

Is it possible for NextPVR to download the JSON data through HTTP (port 80) instead of HTTPS?

SchedulesDirect is considering offering an unencrypted feed for us poor WinXP users. But NextPVR would need to support it. Is it possible?

If they end up adding an http port for accessing the data, I'll provide a provide a you and updated version so that XP uses this http.

Give this patch a go. It should work.

It'll also give you a Warning: You're using XP, so your connection to Schedules Direct is not secure. To keep your login information safe, you should consider upgrading Windows.

Wow! Time for a donation!

Thanks, sub. I dropped it in and it worked without any fuss.

For me, upgrading from WinXP would mean upgrading to Linux (and MythTV). As good as Myth might be, I really wanted to stay with NextPVR. Thanks for making that happen.

Great. It's a pity we had to worry about it in the first place, but the fix will keep things going for XP users without the distruption of having to upgrade.
