NPVR has been working great for a long time but suddenly it doesn't work. I'm using Windows 10 (64-bit). I've tried to restart the recording device but that doesn't help. I get this message:

My recording device works fine with DVBViewer. I've also tried uninstalling and then reinstalling NPVR.
I have attached my logs.

I haven't investigated yet, but I applied the latest Microsoft patches and it no longer works. So... That's where I'll be starting.

Same problem here. Windows update broke it.

The Window update broke playback with the Microsoft DTV DVD Decoder http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...rks-for-me. This thread is about the recordings service failing to start. What are you new posters seeing?

@HansJoachim I think you may have made things worse trying to uninstall and reinstall and you didn't clean things out. Reboot and try a reinstall again and see if that helps.

sub has identified a "fix" (at least for now)
It seems to die in "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\CompPkgSup.dll"

Removing or replacing it with an older version.
You may have to make yourself the owner and assign full rights to the file under the security tab.
Then, back-rev, move or delete the file.
You will need to choose an MPEG2 Decoder.
But, that seems to be the quick fix.
Let's hope this gets sorted out quickly as I suspect many are affected.

It's not just NPVR....Just saw this in the HDHR forum
Quote:On 3/14/2017 Microsoft started pushing KB4013429 via Windows Update. This update includes a bug which causes applications that use accelerated MPEG2 video decode to crash when attempting to play video.

The bug affects the HDHomeRun app in countries with MPEG2 video.
This same crash can be seen when attempting to play a DVD with the Windows DVD Player app from Microsoft.

The problem has been confirmed to be part of the OS and can't be fixed via an app-store update.

We have an open line of communication with Microsoft and we expect a KB to be released shortly.

Updates will be posted in this thread.

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit, and replacing it with an old version worked fine here.
