Sub, I don't use Kodi here and I still have to remember to manually empty the Live TV buffer folder sometimes. I just checked and have 39 files totaling over 11GB. The files don't stay behind every time, as they're mostly dated from August and one file is from November. I'm certain that we viewed WAY more than 39 Live TV shows in that time. It seems that some self delete, but others stick around and it seems a bit random. Attached a screen shot of the directory.

There was a bug fixed in one of the very recent releases that could stop files getting let behind. It'll be interesting to see if you still get any files left behind in the current release.

That makes sense as I haven't seen any at all in December. Smile

No I dont currently use it with Kodi. I did try it a few years ago but I had crashing problems with that so I decided to just use NPVR alone. (why complicate life?)

If you start live tv, and just leave it watching a single channel, do files just keep accumulating (beyond four files)? When you stop live tv, do those four files get deleted?

There is 1 live file leftover from last night before midnight time stamp is 1156pm. No files left over from watching today. I can watch it some more the next few days.

Would like to bring another issue in the use of the time shifting feature to your attention. My previous issues had to do with the time shifting feature set to time based. So now...

Does the time shifting feature work with EPG Based time shifting to the best of your knowledge? According to the documentation wiki with the switch set to epg based I should be able to watch a show from the beginning and then hit ctrl K at any point in the show and record the watched show in its entirety back to the start time in the TV Guide. The wiki says the video buffer going back to the show start time will be added to the recording that starts at the point I hit ctrl K.

So i set out to retest that seeing that it did not work when I tried it a year ago.... and it did not work now either. here is what i did... After watching the show for a while... I hit ctrl K and the OSD says "recording". A quick check of the TV guide at this point shows the intended show hilited in RED so it appears as it will record the 1 hour show in full or so I believe. a few minutes after the show is over I went to look for it in Recordings and found nothing, checked whats new... nothing. Checked C:TEMP nothing there not even the LIVE files that sometimes dont go away. Puzzling.

While killing time I did play around watching stuff via the web server while NPVR was recording the above. I tried a PC, and Ipad and an Android device to watch the same show that was being recorded and also watch a few minutes of some previously recorded shows. At no time did I get any hint that anything was up with the attempted recording... though I did find an oops in the initial Android screen you get right after pushing the watch button (Pause bar appears while nothing plays... clicking it causes the video to play , the pause bars reappear and its fine from there)

I will attach my zip file and rerun my test but this time I wont fool with any other feature. The zip file area to check would be between 10 pm and 11 pm today

It's worth noting, that if you use EPG base time shifting, and you press record, the recording will end up in the in your Live TV Buffer Directory (Settings->Misc). This is because it was the live tv buffer file, and pressing record has effectively just told it to keep the buffer file.

In your particular case:
Quote:2018-01-01 22:05:30.726 [DEBUG][38] KeepCurrentStreamFile
2018-01-01 22:05:30.726 [DEBUG][38] keeping: The National (C:\Temp\The National_20180101_22002300.ts)

When you're operating EPG based timeshifting, instead of having four files, each covering about 5 minutes (on default 20 minute buffer), you instead end up with four files, one for each of the last four tv shows (if you've been watching that channel long enough). When you press record, it's effectively just telling NextPVR to keep that buffer file rather than deleting it, and to create a Recording that points to it.

This operation (the keeping the existing recording in the Live TV Buffer Directory) makes sense from a pragmatic point of view, but is a bit confusing when finding "left-over files" in the Buffer Directory. Would you consider having the press Record button function also queue an Archive operation from the Buffer Directory to the Default Directory.

iGL should do this with the --live option
