The context of this isn't clear, so it could be a few things. It could just something created by your browser's download manager when its downloading a file. ie, it'll probably be renamed to .mp4 or something when the file download completes. Alternatively, it could be partial .mp4 files sometimes used in HLS or DASH.

ok, TS is Transport System file with .ts extension?
and PART file mean part of any type file? I thought PART was unique file system like TS, MP4, MOV, etc.. cus I see .part extension. Then again file can be given any extension.

Not to be picky (again curious only), so TS is a PART file?
I mean in NPVR, parts of TS file is downloaded into TEMP folder before final TS file that NPVR plays.
Am I thinking correctly?

I have no idea what this part file is you're referring to. My guess, its either be a partial download file (not yet completed), made by your browser, or it could be related to partial mp4 files allowed in latest revisions of HLS. You'd need to give us more context about where you're getting these files before we could narrow it down further.

NextPVR does not create or use these ".part" files.

NextPVR does not download files. NextPVR is not a file sharing program.

NextPVR is software that functions as a video recorder for television.

NextPVR receives a stream that is a TV channel. The stream can come from a hardware device that is a tuner that receives a TV stream from an antenna or from a satellite dish.

NextPVR can also receive a stream from a IPTV service. The IPTV service broadcasts channels containing TV streams across the Internet. NextPVR receives the IPTV stream and displays the stream as Live TV or NextPVR receives the stream and creates a recording of the IPTV stream. NextPVR creates .ts files when it records a stream. NextPVR creates .ts files when it records from a tuner device and when it records from an IPTV service.

.part files are not created by NextPVR. .part files have no special significance in NextPVR. NextPVR is also able to play any random video file using the Video menu item and display any random still picture using the Pictures menu item.

Great clear explanation. I used wrong choice of words "download", again as a novice.
Now it's very crystal clear how it all works, thanks to you.
I can be a pest sometimes keep asking questions, eventually get booted or get the ultimate answer. haha
Thanks again. SmileSmileSmile

The only thing I know that creates a .part file the way chrome creates a .crdownload is like Firefox and some FTP programs when you download a file through the browser. These files are just portions and will be corrupt until the download finishes and the correct extension is placed on the file by Firefox or whatever program you are downloading with because it is just a partial downloaded file.

If you haven't broken it at least once, you're not doing it right.

Interesting you mention downloading in browser.
I use "downloader" in Firefox. This particular downloader can download LIVE stream (like LIVE sports game).
BTW most "downloader" can't download LIVE streams. though they claim so.

I can see PART file size increasing, when finishing, it says "appending" then final MP4.
Sometimes I can see full file size (ex, 300MB for 30mins) MP4. But can't play cus bad PMT or something. Why? another topic.

Other times download stops, and only PART file remain, but can't play. It has .part extension and size shown too.
Now I know PART file has downloaded only part of MP4 thus can't play.

What confuses and frustrates novice like me is when google, I see many "claims" of..
how to play PART file, HOw to convert PART to MP4, etc...So I am thinking PART must be a legit type of file that can be converted to MP4.
Like converting AVI to MP4. BUt not true. It's hard to ask anybody online thus I come to forums like this to ask.

Yeah, this probably the server dropping the connection or similar.

It's probably an incomplete file, so unlikely to play. There is no guarantee you can play it. You might get lucky and sort of plays, but in general it's just a file you've not managed to download (because either your internet, or the server, disconnected, resulting in a broken partial download)
