Maybe I'm missing a critical setting (or the whole point of this device) but right now when I surf each channel, it starts recording it. I don't want it to record all the time, by default. I'd like to choose what gets recorded.

Can anyone tell me how to set it to default record off and to record things only when I explicitly tell it to?

There are two modes, "live preview mode" which doesnt record to disk, and "timeshift mode" which does record to disk.

The default is "live preview" which doesnt record, but this is not compatible with the specialist hardware decoders (MVP, XCard or PVR350), so these devices are permanently stuck in "timeshift mode". There is no way around this.

that is too bad. b/c I use a Media MVP and when I channel surf I have a whole lot of files I don't want to see.

Does it do the same thing when using Hauppage's software? If not, that would seem to be a glaring problem with an otherwise excellent piece of software.

The files will be automatically deleted a few minutes after you finish watching each show. You dont have to delete any manually, so why does it bother you? If you dont want to see the files, dont look in your live tv recordings directory.

The Hauppauge software doesnt let you watch TV.
