Process for a clean install of GBPVR and plugins

Well I think it is finally time for a clean install of GBPVR. My VAPanel doesn't seem to be working correctly along with small other items. I have had it up and running for 24/7 for the last 9 months. What is the best way to do this w/o losing my recordings database? IS the main file to really be concerned about the gbpvr.mdb? Are there any other files I need to copy?

Otherwise I was planning on uninstalling GBPVR, deleting the directory it resides in, and reinstalling it, placing plugins and skins back one at a time. I think I have accumulated quite a few files which are no longer needed.

Over time I have botched installs and just learned the process of installing plugins and other components so I'm sure some of the problems I have are from me learning the hard. All in all it still works very well and I just have small problems which I would like to get working.

Do others do a fresh install from time to time after tranisioning through quite a few of the core updates?

Yes. I assume your already running v0.93.x? If so then you're save to just copy this file back into your new installation.

When I did a fresh install I preferred to start with a new gbpvr.mdb. So prior to uninstalling & deleting the old folder select EXPORT recordings and save that file somewhere safe.
Then I deleted the old gbpvr folder and reinstalled from new. Then I set up a new EPG/channel list and IMPORTED back in the save recordings file.

GBPVR nows runs faster than previously and all the old recording are still available.

The old mdb was over 100MB in size the new one under 20MB, definitely a speed improvement.

Maybe I should try before asking, but what or how did you export your recordings? Did you do that from a plugin, GBPVR or within GBPVR config? I might spend the extra time and do as you suggested.

Not sure, but I think one (or many) of the plugins have this feature. Try asking in the plugins forum if no one answers here.

gbpvr.mdb is an access database file right? Is it possible to compact it and repair it either through Access or gbpvr?

I have another application that uses access databases (PokerTracker) and there is an option built in to repair and compact which also creates a backup of the mdb file.

I suppose it would be possible to just open gbpvr in access and do this, I'm actually not that familiar with Microsoft Access though.

EDIT: Nevermind I just read another post that explained that the mdb file is compacted with Jetcomp
