NextPVR is great an does it job, this is on me as I am screwing something up.

I am using NextPVR with Zap2It for the epg info.

Out of all the EPG grabbers I have tried this is the best and has not broke so far, keep fingers crossed.

My problem is I cannot get the EPG to auto update.

Sometime during the morning I have to manually click on the Update EPG button on the Setting Page and it updates.

Normally this takes about 15 minutes or so and I am good for EPG data for the next 12 hours or so.

Yes the setting is turned on in Misc 2. I have checked it many times.

I have tried at least a dozen times to setup Windows task to auto update and to date none of them have worked.

It has been to many years since I last wrote a .bat file so I cannot remember how to write one that will trigger automatically and I cannot seem to find an example of one on the NextPVR site.

I know where the log files are but I have no idea as to which log file anyone will need to look at as there are so many in the folder.

Can anyone please give me some help with something that will work to auto update my EPG file?

Thanks in advance,

David

That was the thread that I used to setup Zap2It.

Was there anything special you wanted me to look at?

There are 11 pages to go through and if there is something specific I would appreciate a pointer.

Thanks

Sorry I don't it probably relates to the user account for the recording service. If you want easy spend the two bucks a month for Schedules Direct.

You could try creating a log in your epgupdate.bat file and see if the job is even running. If you post your epgupdate.bat, I can provide modifications to generate log file...

Seems like Windows is causing NPVR not to update properly. About a week ago, I noticed that I had only one day of 13 days of EPG in my Kodi menu. Went to NPVR Settings and manually clicked on Update EPG. After updating nothing. Still had only one day as before.

Deleted NPVR/Scripts/ Cache and XLMTV files and manually updated via elevated Command Prompt using my Bat file. After about almost an hour, NPVR Menu again had 13 days of EPG programming.

Today I noticed I had only 8 days of 13 days in my NPVR Menu. Again hit the Update EPG in settings. Nothing. Manually updated my XMLTV by running my UpdateEPG.bat via elevated Command Prompt. I now have 13 days of EPG programming in my NPVR TV Guide.

So, I decided to make a Task that will automatically run my BAT file in a elevated Command Prompt. Will see if my EPG maintains 13 days of programming or I have to make a task to run NPVR Update EPG once a day also.

This is usually a sign the user has got a problem in their UpdateEPG.bat. . The two most common problems are making assumptions about the current directory, or putting files in a place the recording service can't access.

When UpdateEPG.bat is run from the Recording Service, the default directory is something like c:\windows\system32, so you need to make sure you explicitly change to another directory if your batch file is assuming it's running in the same directory as a the .bat file, or use explicit paths.

The other common mistake people make, is that NextPVR's Recording Service running as the 'localsystem' account, so when UpdateEPG.bat is run, it runs as localsystem, so they need to make sure that any data files etc are in a location that this account has permission to access.

Zap2xml installs perl and other files to the installing user folder so it won't run as local system. Users need to read the big thread for guidance.

What you are saying may be a common problem, but in my case, My updated UpdateEPG.bat has been working fine since Zap2it updated its website a few months ago. I just needed to add a couple of extra switches to be able to populate my TV Guide in the BAT File since the new Grabber was updated.

The UpdateEPG.bat is located in NPVR Folder inside of the Scripts Folder as per the instructions from NPVR own Forums on how to create and place the UpdateEPG.bat.

This is a problem that just started AFTER I upgraded Windows from version 1803 to 1809. I haven't changed anything in NPVR to cause the problems I am having now.

I have had a couple of Windows Updates that may be causing the problem with NPVR. That has been the only change in my computer. I get no error messages and when you click in Settings - Update EPG - it seems to run normally as before. Except nothing is updated. NPVR runs my BAT file, shows it running the BAT file then it shows it updating the XMLTV file.

Also I not running a Local Account but from Microsoft Account which is not local.

So, Unless you tell me that the grabber was again updated since October 2018 than it may be my UpdateEPG.bat needs to be updated. But as far as I know, The Zap2it Grabber hasn't been updated recently.

This problem may only affect a small portion of Users unless others start posting but that may be due that most have not upgraded to the current version yet since Microsoft yanked the Download from the public.

I'm sure NextPVR will be running your UpdateEPG.bat, but you're having issues with whatever you're trying to run within your batch file.

When some users have had problems like this, to diagnose what is happening, they've edited their UpdateEPG.bat to pipe the standard-out/standard-error from the commands they're running, to some text file, so they can see check the output. This way they can see if some file isn't found, or some permission problem etc. Likely some issue with whatever grabber you're running, or it's data files etc.
