OTA Stations Not Viewable

Good day...I have been using a Hauppauge Quad Tuner for some time now with no issues until today. IPTV channels are working fine as I can view and record. However, I cannot record nor view OTA channels. Using SD as my EPG source and only the OTA is not working in NPVR correctly. NPVR recognizes the quad tuner device and I have setup the tuner which indicates my local channels. Is there anything I can do? TIA...cheers!!

If you attempt a recording, do you get a file? Can you play that file in another player like VLC?

Good day sub...Unfortunately, I get video recorded but I do get folder named for the show I wanted recorded but within that folder is blank.

Good day...I just did a complete NPVR install and a wintv8 install. I scanned in the OTA channels and after completion I tried to watch a few channels but got nothing. Then I tried a quick record on a few channels and only got empty folders. I then mapped only 1 channel with SD to see if that would work and again, nothing. The wintv8 application works fine as I can watch and record stations. I have included the log in hopes that would shed some light. As a backup plan I can keep wintv8 application to watch and record OTA channels but would rather do all through NPVR. Thanks in advance...cheers!!

So you don't even get a file? That doesn't sound likely (unless your recording directory doesn't have permissions that allow NextPVR to create files). May be worth checking again.

If you try scanning in NextPVR, do you see channels listed?

Good day...as seen above, I do get channels and I also get a folder with the absent recording as shown below. The folder gets built but no recording. I would think if it was apermissions issue, the folder would not get built but I will check into that. This has never happened before as I have had NPVR handle my recordings in the past so I have no idea what has happened. TIA...cheers!!

But I would think the most important problem is that I cannot watch any channels using NPVR. When I also had an IPTV service connected, those channels would work fine but not the OTA. So I think we need to figure out why I cannot watch live tv first. Cheers!!

Did your reboot recently or at least after this error

So I think we need to figure out why I cannot watch live tv first.

Live TV is effectively a recording that gets played. So deciding if you can make a recording is a first key step of diagnosing any live tv issues. ie tells us if you're successfully receiving data from your capture device. Doesn't sound like you're getting that far currently.

Good day...so first, the issue of live tv watching appears to be fixed for now. Thanks sub for explaining that live TV is actually a recording. What I did was to completely uninstall the product including any remnants within the registry. Then I scanned and re-scanned the registry and hard drive after 2 restarts between them. There was a problem in uninstalling some of the remnants on the hard drive as I got a notice telling me that I could not delete these files (8 of them) because they were still open by the recording device. But how could that be? So going into "services" I found that NPVR recording service had a status of running but disabled(???). So I put the PC into safe mode whereby I could "stop" the recording service then going back into regular mode I was able to delete the remnant files on the hard drive. So based on this finding I would say that NPVR was somehow still locked onto some files, but why and more importantly how?

Finally, after determining that NPVR was indeed deleted from the PC I proceeded to re-install the product after a reboot. I scanned for the ATSC tuner channels and populated one of the tuners. Then copies of the first tuner were pulled into the remaining 3 tuners (the default option). A final EPG update was initiated before going further.

Checking to see if I could watch a channel resulted in a positive response so I checked out the remaining OTA channels and they are all able to be watched now which is good. Unfortunately, my local OTA channels cannot be recorded. The IPTV channels can be recorded and the resulting .ts files are found within their respective folder in users\public\publicvideos. I quick recorded 3 OTA channels and scheduled 2 OTA recordings which all failed to record. I also quick recorded 1 IPTV channel and schedule 1 IPTV channel to record and both were successful recordings.

So some progress has been made in the area of being able to watch live TV through NPVR. Now I am facing the problem of getting OTA channels recorded.
