Hi,

I have a question if someone was to setup a Xmltv grabber based Schedules Direct JSON file importer for NextPVR v5. Would if the extra 3rd party external metadata (TheTVDB) retrieval id be operated on by this new version of the software please?

Cause this service contains a lot of information and data associated with television shows. Including a review ratings importing, along with fanart and so much more. Also this information is very complete and expanding due to submissions from the community.

However for the TheTVDB show, season episode id included in any grabbed listing with the feature enabled (off by default). To have an effect the Xmltv parser of the DVR needs to be able to access and retrieve TheTVDB data from its JSON based API.

So is it possible for support of this retrieval system to be included in the next build please or some future build?

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter.

Kind Regards,

Schedules Direct JSON support is built into NextPVR no need to setup a grabber to get their advanced data.

As Martin suggests, why would you not use the built in Schedules Direct support?

It doesn't pull in ratings from TheTVDB, but it will already use it for artwork.

However Xmltv 0.6.x has support for TheTVDB. Which includes a lot of data which is extremely comprehensive. Plus the channel names can be searched through the retrieved Xmltv file (if accessible in text editor).

The names of the channels currently retrieved by NextPVR v5 are rather cryptic. Very unhelpful when channel mapping with mis-recognised channels or unrecognised requiring manual mapping.

I'm currently trying to map up "Tiny Pop" a channel on UK Freeview and find it amongst the naming format of Schedules Direct JSON in NextPVR v5 is a torture. To help with converting the rather cryptic names in the drop down to a comprehendible human readable one.

If you go to the Settings->Channels tab, click 'Advanced Tools', then 'Auto Map'. You can select DVB-T as the channel type, then select your Schedules Direct lineup, and then hit 'auto map'. Hopefully this will get most of the mappings for you?

Can you give me an example of what is cryptic? There might be some stuff I can do to make it behave better.

Ultimately the names of the channels with DVB-T have come from whatever the broadcaster has used in the stream.

One thing which Xmltv tv handles well is having both the cryptic name for the channel which you're currently using in the drop down list along with a human readable one. You aren't currently - source of the manual mapping torture.

I have to agree you there the callsign is often too cryptic.

The process varies a bit depending on where you are in the world and what type of channels you have.

With DVB-T, it defaults to DVB EPG, which is nice and straight forward for the bulk of users. If you want to switch it Schedules Direct you can either use the Auto Map, or go into the settings for the channel and manually select the mapping. The Auto Map feature is easy to use, but has to try to match the channels based on the names, which may not always be spelled exactly the same in the DVB-T and Schedules Direct, so wont always get them right. I'm not sure how good it is in the UK, but I'm happy to improve this auto mapping if we can. (still very early days for this new 'auto map' feature)
