iOS app can't find latest v5

The AppleTV app is design to work on the same network as the NextPVR server. It uses full bitrate streams, and is not intended to be used across the internet, so doesn't support entering a remote address.

The iOS app, for iPhone/iPad is different, since it also supports transcoded lower bitrate streams, and can be used across the internet, so supports entering a remote address.

Well that makes the app for AppleTv a bag of rocks. Who doesn't have more than one subnet on a private network these days?  Remote addresses aren't exclusively for internet traffic.  Disappointing news.  Thanks for clarifying the limitations Sub.

We'll to be honest, that scenario has never come up before. I imagine most people don't have a home network with multiple subnets, so it's not normally an issue having the Apple TV on the same network as the server. Even if they did have multiple subnets, I imagine most people would be able to easily adjust their setup to get them on the same subnet.

I could definitely look into adding a way to explicitly specify a server address. I haven't added that because I didn't want to give users the expectation that they'd be able to use it across the internet - these are full bitrate streams, and the majority of people don't have internet connections that can keep up.

I agree with sub that most users only have one subnet. That being said I do try and keep my IoT devices like the AppletTV on their own VLAN so it would be an issue for me too.

I concur that most users currently only have one subnet. But, with the proliferation of wifi connected IoT devices (cameras, washers, refrigerators, alarm systems, garage door openers, etc.), I think that it will become much more common for people to have multiple VLANs, wifi SSIDs, etc. for both security reasons as well as QOS management even in their homes.

So I would vote for having some way (even if it is "obscure") to be able to specify a server address for the AppleTV client.

My case is just as BrettB describes.  All home devices and Guest WiFi are on Vlans for security reasons.  Thanks Sub for accommodating this need.  Much appreciated!

I am also a bit confused on this thread because it seems from the first post and the thread title that the issues is the iOS app but the problem seems to be in the AppleTV app.

The Apple TV remote has got very few buttons (not even up/down/left/right), but has a touch pad area at the top for gestures, like swiping etc.

It read to me like he was mainly having issues with his Apple TV app (which is tvOS not iOS). He also tried the iPhone app, and was able to get that working with firewall exclusions.

Yes, the issue I have is with the tvOS version of the app. No ADD button to choose a subnet or specific IP to scan for the v5 server. Thanks again for considering this feature add.
