I run in Windows as a hidden scheduled task and it works just like v4 to run at startup, I posted an example somewhere.

FYI - This is still a BETA test version--and in some ways still ALPHA (i.e. it doesn't yet have a Windows installer to do the firewall rules, create a Windows service, configuration migration from v4, etc.) and you have to do many of those items manually or via workarounds.

So, while it is quite stable overall, it probably is not yet at the point of being "wife acceptable". Big Grin For that, I'd stick to v4 for now.

I have good success copying the enter npvr v4 data folder to npvr-data and then running v4 to migrate. This should keep icons art and most of the settings the same.

Oh...yeah I just started a new job after some time so was hoping it's "almost there" if it had wicked improvements that I needed to have "now now" but actually v4 is sweet as for now.

Might try next week, thanks Martin.

OK I eventually got around to trying this, install was simple enough using recommended directories, based on above advice I copied the entire data directory across and it seemed to work, including all my USBUIRT/Channel/Devices settings! Awesome. Had to remember to disable v4 service when I started the v5 Server. How do I remove the v4 service temporarily while testing v5?

I only changed the PORT from 8866 to 8867 and I took the <Version> section from the v5 config.xml but that's all.

(a) Is there anything else from the v5 config.xml that I would absolutely need to re-add to my v4 config.xml (that was copied to v5) or (b) is there anything that was in the v4 config.xml that would not work in v5, that I will absolutely need to remove?

We do need a wiki but there was a helpful post a few days ago https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=59913 that explains the 8866/8867 setup but I agree that I would stop v4 before doing these steps and remove the recordings from v5 so you can run them both together. Once they are setup v4 and v5 can coexist on the two ports.

I can't think of anything from the config.xml that will need change that sub doesn't do for you. Some tuner types likely won't work this way though.

OK thanks Martin, good to know.

Will keep playing with it but for now v5 seems identical to v4 (via knewc) in looks which is good for continuity. The web-browser based setup is of course way different and I haven't really tried channel change speed but I am sure there's lots of improvements under the hood.
