I wouldn't celebrate until I watched a a whole show. The real test for stability will be getting an extra to work in v5. This will trickier and extras aren't quite ready for prime time.

Yes I understand. Actually watching a show while its recording and I'll watch it all the way through and then check the recording too. So far it looks promising though. What do you mean when you refer to getting an extra to work in v5? Is an extra like an advanced plug-in?

An extra is a new device type in v5 that provides support for unsupported devices. Once sub fixes a few things I will be documenting it. I would not call them more advanced but they are more flexible.

@checkbin99 if you have time, I have a python file I'd like you to run a few tests with using your r5000 to see if we can get it going in v5. If you are interested let me know.

Hi @mvallevand.  Sure I'd be happy to run some tests for you with my R5000.  I'd be happy to help out after all the assistance you gave me.  I should have some free time in the next few days.  Please let me know.

You need to install python and run the attached program with some options. You also need to edit the to use your server ip  and port (DISCOVERY will help tell me if I can do it without the IP and port)

python opendct.py DISCOVERY
(DISCOVERY will help tell me if I can do it without the IP and port)

python opendct.py VERSION
(Probably 2.0)

python opendct PROPERTIES

Then it gets more interesting especially if PROPERTIES works and shows a device name. If it does there are two more tests.

python opendct.py "START" "device name from above"  channel-number filename
(filename as known to the r5000)

To stop the recording
python opendct.py "STOP" "device name from above"

Then for a more advanced feature if your host supports streaming to a SageTV server rather then simple file recording

python opendct.py "START" "device name from above" channel-number  | ffplay -i pipe: -v panic

If you need to kill this at anytime assuming this is the only python program running.

taskkill /im python.exe /f

Thanks for testing

Martin

So am I to run this directly on the Windows box that hosts my R5000?  Or do I need to set up NextPVR 5 as well?

Anywhere that supports python this doesn't use NextPVR at all.

The final test requires ffplay.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay but with Thanksgiving and all the family stuff going on I just got around to testing this.

I'm probably missing something but it won't run to to something probably on my part:

bill@Mint-desktop:~/Downloads$   python opendct.py VERSION
  File "opendct.py", line 36
    print ('stdout not redirected', file=sys.stderr)
                                        ^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

Same error when I run:   python opendct.py DISCOVERY
