I get the feeling I'm missing something important

Pardon my ignorance, but I think I'm missing a component to get my GBPVR to display on my TV. From what I've seen in these forums, I guess I also need to buy a Media MVP box to connect to the TV and to my network. Is this correct? Is it possible to schedule recordings from the GBPVR menu (instead of remotely from another PC) if it can be outputted to the TV.

Please let me know if I'm missing something else, my config is:

Shuttle Micro ATX P4 2.4 GHz
2 gb RAM (8 mb shared with onboard Intel i845GV video)
Hauppauge PVR-150 (Retail with remote)
WD 40 GB 7200 RPM IDE HD
Windows XP PRO SP2

Also trying to get a Gyromouse Pro (gyroscopic mouse) to work with the system.

To display on your TV you either need a video out on your video card or a Media MVP from Hauppage.

I belive a lot of people using GBPR have the TV connected directly to their Video card in the PC and run GBPVR in full screen.....in this mode GBPVR is just like MS's Windows XP Media Center edition.

The MVP allows you to watch TV or recordings originating on the PC running GBPVR from any location via a standard network connection.

I use the MVP as my display tool for GBPVR.

The MVP has a pretty good picture, and is small/cheap/quiet, but it does have some downsides - no DVD, slower channel change etc.

would you recommend going the mediamvp route or in my case, get a pci video card with tv out. I see one of the downsides of another video card would be that the computer has to be next to or very close to the tv for the cables to reach. If you aren't familiar with the shuttle case, it's a little bigger than a shoe box but not as long. PCI video cards are cheap, like $30, but not sure which to get either.

no tv-out on the built in video card? do you have an AGP slot? that would be better for video, and if you go that route,get a geforce fx card with tv-out. all the fx cards have high-quality tv chips that outperform the ati cards except for their most expensive ones..and they can be had for 40-50$ at fry's or elsewhere...they do VMR great and excellent 3-d quality to boot and 1024x768 resolution on tv..if you have a HD-tv then there's a nice vga-to-component video adapter available for about 100$ [external,plugs into your existing video card] also available with regular video or s-video outs

but if you have an underpowered pc get a MVP cuz when you use the pc video card, it must decode MPEG2 in software,thus taxing the processor,whrereas a MVP does it all for you in it's own hardware,using almost no pc proccessing power for display..[and does better, i believe, with interlaced images to screen=very smooth video]
the drawback is that you can't play the DVD's on the MVP [unless you try the plugin Jorm is developing...works great for me!] and some plugins will only work on the pc...[but not many] i love mine and run it wirelessly
cost wise the video card is cheaper, but the quality and size of the MVP make it a great buy...

thanks pbs that helps a lot. I've got a pretty beefy system in a micro atx form factor case. but these micro atx boards have onboard video with only a vga output and 2 pci slots, one of which is occupied by the pvr-150.

So it sounds like the media mvp is going to give me better performance and flexibility in the long run. Now just need to find one of those closeout deals on it.

Same gui on your tv via MVP as on the PC itself.

The MediaMVP comes with a remote. You press the buttons, and the requests are sent (via the computer-to-MVP network cable) to your computer. The computer responds by serving up what you request.

I just got a setup with a Hauppauge 350 card, and an MVP, and it works nicely for me now. I had some setup problems, but I think that they're all resolved now. This board is very helpful during that time.
