I seem to have developed a sporadic problem over the last couple of weeks, and I have been unable to pinpoint it - I will be playing an MPEG2 file over the MVP and it will lose connection without any remote buttons pressed. This can happen anywhere from 10-60mins into the file.

Below is an except from the log, which shows the error reported (everything above in the log looks fine, to my untrained eye):

The dongle.bin file lists no version number, but is dated 6/2/2005; I'm pretty sure it's the most recent.

GBPVR version, 0.93.10.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I hate to repost, but has _no-one_ experienced this? I have just watched a movie with my son - an MPEG2 from months age that we have watched countless times in the past - and four times the MVP has crashed to 'contacting servers' and I have had to go and restart the whole service again...

The problem in the log appears to be the same as I reported a week ago; excerpt from tonight's log:

....has anyone got any ideas? Does anyone have an older back up of dongle.bin I can try? Wife (and Kid) Acceptance Factor is hitting a new low....

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I had a problem where GBPVR was crashing on my MVP when I was playing MP3 files and was getting similar error messages to you. The problem was solved when I went back to v2.4.23096 of the Hauppauge MVP software (I had been using a later 2.5 beta release). Perhaps this might work for you?

I ran across your post when still searching for a solution, and I didn't reply after because the cause is different for my problem (always happened after I pressed something on the remote). My symptom, however, was the same... it would get stuck at "Contacting Server..." until I went and restarted the GBPVR service (sometimes had to restart it twice). Sad So give this a try, and hopefully it'll help.

The fix was the same as for Studley. I went back to an older dongle.bin file. I'm not sure which version I went back to (I'm at work now), but it was either the version he refers to (2.4.23096) or the one that came on the CD (of unknown version number). One way I knew I had an old dongle.bin was that you get the volume indication (the 10 little boxes at the bottom of the screen) back when you change the MediaMVP volume. Later versions get rid of that. I tried several of the newer betas before going giving up and going back to the older one.

Here is a link to the version Studley mentions:

http://www.shspvr.com/smf/index.php?PHPS...pic=7783.0

And btw, installing this in the normal fashion doesn't do much if you're using GB-PVR, because you need the MediaMVP services turned off, so the installed dongle.bin is never actually used. What I did was just open the file with WinZip (or was it WinRAR?), and extract JUST the dongle.bin file. Put that in your C:\devnz\GBPVR\Dongle (something like that) folder, after renaming the dongle.bin file that is there (it's the ONLY file in this directory, btw). Unplug, pause, then plug in your MVP, and it should be served up this new dongle.bin. This is the file which (I gather) controls the fundamental operation of the MVP. If you change the volume and see that volume-bar overlay, then you're in business. There was still a longish delay (10-30 seconds) while contacting servers sometimes, usually after watching a recording, but it always connects now. It's almost as if, since they haven't talked in a while except for the impersonal serving up of .mpg data, the computer and the MVP need to get reacquainted. Wink

Give that a try, and see if it fixes your problem. Smile

Thanks guys.

I this problem started when, like a twat, I updated GBPVR (previous release), and downloaded the latest Hauppauge MVP beta, on the_same_day.

I know, I know.... change one thing at a time, right? I deserved it.

I switched the dongle.bin file out this weekend with an earlier one I found in a backup (the dongle.bin is from 12/2004 IIRC), and I'm going to see how that works out a couple of times before installing the latest upgrade.

Thanks again.

Okay, this is getting driving me CRAZY now. Everything seemed fine playing existng mpeg2 recordings that I had made with gbpvr. So I update to the new version and now the Live TV has stopped working!!!!!! AAAAARRRGGH!!!

It's the same error in the logfile (below) as far as I can see, and I have tried disabling the firewall, AV, restarting gbpvr 100000 times, increasing/decreasing the preplay delay....

I am using the 'old' dongle.bin file and have rebooted everything correctly (I get the volume bar on the screen)

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I am so darn glad you posted this. I just bought two MVPs but was having very disappointing results from them. Used on a wireless network, the trouble I was having I was attributing to the network, but after taking this advice, my theory was dispelled. I just had the wrong dongle.bin! Silly me!

Just finished watching my first uninterrupted movie on my MVP. Thanks for taking the time to post!

groover_km,

Did you ever find a solution to the problem you described above? I believe I have a similar (or the same repeatable) problem as described here http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=5...tcount=107)
Despite looking at some of the similarities between our logs and also trying various dongle.bin swaps and codec combinations I cannot find a solution thus far. Next up is a new reinstall without the TVWalker Tuner I recently got to add back in this version (sub fixed it), so will try with just the PVR-150. I'd BE VERY interested in hearing if you got any further with this?

Cheers
k.

Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town in Detroit all weeek.

With the latest release, I have not experienced the problem with saved/ recorded mpeg files, but I am still unable to get live tv to work.

I do have some suggestions from sub to try however, and I'll give them a spin this weekend and report back.

Did either of you get any resolution to this? I am having the same problem with no LiveTV through the MVP. Frustrating.
