Here is a screenshot showing problem which shows how I know time shifting is disabled.
Here's a normal screenshot that shows that time shifting is active.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you asked about epg. I do have a normal epg that displays all of my available channels.

Thank you again for your help.

If you are just going be screenshots that is true they are different but that is because only the current segment is "live" the rest should play like recordings. You should still be able to get full skipping in the recorded piece.

Have you set up NextPVR to use EPG mode? Perhaps that is need. Each block should have a program name files not your 24 minute segments.

When I use my remote to time shift and the display looks like the first screenshot, time shifting does not work - it's disabled.
When the screen looks like the 2nd screenshot, time shifting works with my remote as expected.
As I indicated earlier, time shifting becomes disabled after about 38 minutes.
By the way, the backend logs were generated within 3 - 5 minutes of the 38 minute mark when time shifting became disabled.

What specifically do you try and do with the remote, it should function like a recording. I haven't used extended mode for most of the year so I need a refresher.

You still should get EPG mode working for proper testing.

What is EPG mode? When I go into the nextPVR add-on configuration, I don't see any reference to EPG mode.
In the configuration, Live TV Stream has only 3 options: Timeshift, Extended Timeshift and Real Time.
Where is EPG mode located?

As far as my TV remote is concerned, I use the left & right arrow keys to timeshift forward and backwards. Those keys work until we reach the 38 minute mark after changing the channel to a new channel.

EPG mode is set on the server not client.

In cannot duplicate what you are seeing though so it is not clear what questions to ask.

I changed the backend mode to EPG and it didn't change anything. Timeshifting became disabled around the 38 minute mark.

I took another look at the add-on configuration and need more information on the following configuration parameters:
  • Live TV Chunk Size
  • Recording Chunk Size
  • Pre-Buffer time in seconds
I saw an earlier post from you in which you wrote:
"First there is a new Live TV mode called Extended Timeshift.  It is definitely not meant for users who like it zap through channels, since tuning can be slow.  What it offers over regular timeshift is a large buffer you can timeshift and pause as much and as you long as you would like.  It also allows you to save the current "live" show from the moment you started buffering it until the program ends."

If you have a link to more detailed information, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

I'd need to see your Kodi logs to comment on the issue you are seeing, I am assuming your restarted the server after changing the setting.

Extended timeshift is not time based it is show based (when the server sends the EPG name) so it can buffer 3+ programs. It also allows you to record the entire buffer of the current show until the end. Timeshifting only records from the time you hit record and ignores any that is in the buffer waiting to be watched.

Extended mode is dead in v5 so not much point going into too much detail.

Martin,
I've got some good news & some not so good news. I ran Leia on my Wibdows 10 laptop and on my Raspberry Pi 2.
The not so good news first: EPG mode on the backend server is not a good option, at least for me. Both instances of Leia suddenly stopped playing when the current program ended. I expected Kodi to continue showing the next program just like the timebased mode.

Now the better news: Timeshifting did not end at all on my windows 10 laptop - even after a couple of hours. However, Timeshifting ended on the Raspberry Pi2 after 38 minutes. This tells me that the problem is isolated to the PI. This would explain why you weren't able to replicate the problem.

What are your thoughts?

Sounds more like backend issue then just RPi but it could be their crappy networking adding to the problem. If you want to enable EPG mode and send the kodi and NextPVR logs using the Windows client I could see why that is failing.
