You can't tell direct play is streaming to VLC but it starts with

2020-02-13 08:34:09.113 [DEBUG][8] /live?recording_id=2077

and all looks good.

I'm confident in saying that NextPVR doesn't require a custom kernel, perhaps you used another custom kernel that was causing you a problem.

I booted the machine, went into Nextpvr browser and started playback of a recorded show. Flawless operation. So I copied the url at the bottom of the screen, closed the browser, restarted the nextpver-server and opened VLC. After pasting the url into the network streaming page it played flawlessly. I then opened the Nextpvr browser, selected "Settings" and logs. I could not find any VLC specific log files.
Ok - good to hear it's working substantially better for you.

The logging info about streaming to VLC will just be in nrecord.log, along with any backend/webserver related activities.

There is probably no need to look at those logs you posted, because from the description they don't show any problems.

What else from your list is still behaving badly that you'd like us to look at?

The following is about trying to view live TV through VLC using the live link at the bottom of the page below the transcoder exited error message

Figured out vlc logging. Seems to be looking for some lua scripts but there are none on my machine??? Attached is the VLC log, verbosity 2, and the tree from /.var/app/org.videolan.VLC folder. Both attached files are plain text, not zip. The forum apparently doesnt allow *.txt files. And the different kernel has not yet been customized, just somewhat more current and solved a different issue.

Attached Files
.zip   vlctree.zip (Size: 7.15 KB / Downloads: 1)
.zip   vlclog3.zip (Size: 9.09 KB / Downloads: 0)
.zip   logs-20200213-1133-live-coder-exit.zip (Size: 324.48 KB / Downloads: 4)

No, the forum doesn't allow .txt attachments. You need to zip any log files you attach. NextPVR provides log files pre-zipped to make this easy for you.

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood - we don't need the logs from VLC. We were only interested in the NextPVR logs showing your attempt to stream to VLC.

OK, my misunderstanding. The npvr zipped log is an attempt to view a live video OTA feed, no vlc involved .

When you try to watch live tv, it creates a live tv buffer file in the directory you've got configured for your buffer directory.

Do you see a file get created when you try to watch live tv? Does it have anything in it?

Re post #12 this thread, still no live tv but it does record just fine now. The recording even seems to play without freezing but occasional stutters of the video, not audio, in Nextpvr!!! Positive improvement without a doubt. A minor annoyance when viewing a recording concerns how it jumps ahead, to skip commercials. The first click on the arrow key or on the timeline causes the little position dot to jump over halfway across the range. Subsequent sequential clicks jump forward appropriately. But if you are at or near the middle of the recording the dot goes to the end and you're kicked out of the viewer. So you restart the video and click on the timeline to where you were.

No file gets created in my tmp buffer folder. A rights issue perhaps?

/home/adw/tmp/ will not be writable by the nextpvr service without changing permissions as explained on deb announcement post

I'm wondering if you've got the live tv buffer directory set to somewhere the application cannot write to using the account it is running as.
