When you said 'Client of V5', I assumed you were meaning nextpvr.exe. Are you talking about playback in a browser instead?

I'll leave it to play for a bit then restart the PC (which I've done earlier today) and play some more. Don't know if there's something about how it starts or how I start it, or whats already running or something. For instance sometimes I start it and there's nothing in the task bar thing, other times its there, which is handy. At the moment there's a server window open with Renew Lease OK and stuff in it, haven't seen that for a while. Probably depends what I click on to start it.

Sorry for the ramble.

So I restarted the PC and NextPVR appeared in the taskbox (bottom right up arrow thing in Windows) as a 'N'. It was grey, I checked its status and the box was empty. After a few seconds the tuner appeared and the 'N' went green. I played some TV in the NextPVR app and it stopped at 6m40s.

I tried just killing the NextPVRService in Task Manager and played something again, and it stopped again.

Then I told NextPVR to exit in the taskbox and also killed NextPVRServer in Windows Task Manager. I started the server again from the start menu and it displayed the window as it used too (the one with 'Renewed Lease OK' etc in it), and nothing showing in the taskbox. Played something again and its still playing after 18 minutes.

Well, maybe I have my version names wrong.  Go back to version 4, no web.  Version 5 has what we had in version 4 and the part that runs in a browser.  So, what are the correct names for the two different programs.  One that does not use the browser and one that does?

The recording service and tray apps are separate utilities, not started together (since they usually run in separate desktop sessions, one as a service, one as the logged in user). If you've stopped the tray app, and you want it back there, you'll need to re-run NPVRTray.exe.

Can you maybe post two sets of logs, one showing running as a service, and the other after just manually running NextPVRServer.exe

Apologies if I am teaching anyone to suck eggs ...

Next PVR has three components ...

  1. A Recording Service that starts when Windows starts and connects to tuners and creates recording files.
  2. Client software that you see on screen and that plays recordings and that connects to the Recoridng Service to show Live TV.
  3. A NextPVR Status app that displays an icon in the tray in the bottom right of the screen.
The Recording Service (RS) operates in the same way in both V4 and V5 ... RS V5 is a rewrite that should do a better job than RS V4  and RS V5 is able to run under Linux and MacOS.  Controlling RS V5 can be done via a web browser to, for example, schedule recordings.

The client software for V5 includes a NextPVR.exe that looks the same as the client software in V4 (but, currently, must run on the same machine as the RS).

The NextPVR status app in V4 is used to show what the RS is doing and to start the RS and the client app.

RTKAT Wrote:Client of V5 is working good with recordings, but a big problem with live TV. It wants to play for several minutes and then just stops. Goes back to the main menu.
Were you talking about the web app, or nextpvr.exe? I assumed nextpvr.exe because you mentioned it going back to the main menu.

To differentiate which client we're talking about, I've usually said "web app" or "nextpvr.exe" these days.

OK, I entered in the registry the "LogDemuxFileOps" that you told arrbee99 to do.  I ran nextpvr.exe on live TV and it worked for a short time and then went back to the main menu.  Below are the logs and that txt file it made.
