Currently I have a single-tuner set up but am considering buying a second capture card and getting a second cable box. If I do, do I need to also get a second IR blaster, or can a single IR blaster be configured to control two cable boxes. Obviously, I'll have to set the second cable box on a different frequency/channel for receiving IR commands. But can an IR blaster like the Actisys support sending signals to two different cable boxes?

Thanks for any input

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Actisys IR blaster can be configured separately in two different capture sources, and send two different type of IR out of the one single blaster.

Of course the cable boxes would need to be different types that accept different IR signals, or they will both change channels each time an IR signal is sent.

Thanks sub. If anyone else has any experience with this particular blaster in conjunction with two different cable boxes, please let me know. I want to make sure that this set up works before I buy a second capture card and get my cable company to bring me a second cable box.

I'll also ask my cable company about being able to configure the second cable box to listen on a different channel/frequency (whatever the correct term is for infrared communication).

Talk about cable company, I live in Jersey City, New Jersey (USA) and am with Comcast. Anyone else who is a customer of them will certainly agree that they suck big time! I have their digital cable service, but the first 100 channels are still analog and have really bad quality (grainy). Their built-in TV guide function only displays one half-hour column at a time and a third of the screen is taken up by advertisement.

The interesting thing btw is that the quality of the analog channels appears better when digitized through the capture card -- it seems to take some of the grain out.
