I installed the official first non-beta of V5 on a server that's running V4.  I expected that it would update everything and just work, like previous version updates, but I'm still seeing V4.  V5 is installed.  I see all the new files in C:\Program Files\NextPVR.  But none of my settings seem to have come across to V5.

Are there some extra steps involved?

Thanks!

UPDATE:  See this post (Number 19 in this thread) for details of how I have now successfully migrated from V4 to V5:

No it doesn't replace and as I mentioned when you posted in the announcement thread there are steps you need to do to migrate.

For starters what I would try is.

- stop the v4 or v5 recording service that is running
- remove tray icon exe you don't want from auto start
- copy the v4 config.xml and npvr.db3 from NPVR to NPVR-data
- restart the v5 server
- remove and reinstall IPTV tuners and recordings.

You pointed me to a link for the download in the announcement thread, but there are no instructions there other than the download link, so thanks for the list above. Perhaps it should also be added to the announcement thread? It seems that the official release is setup to update those who are already using V5. It seems to ignore a V4 installation. No way I'm gonna experiment with her highness's DVR, especially now that we're confined to quarters. Wink Hopefully a more thorough installer will come along soon???

The installer doesn't upgrade or overwrite but it can run in parallel. The steps are pretty straight forward though, and since it fails for IPTV users it is better not to be automatic.

However there hasn't been much support from users in getting a new wiki going to make this easier. Not sure all of this needs to be left up to sub.

To be honest, it's pretty much a different application to v4, using different technologies etc, and I wouldn't have wanted to try an in place upgrade. It installs to a different directory and has different data files directory. In theory it can be installed alongside v4, but realistically a user should just uninstall v4, install v5 and set it up from scratch. It's probably not something I'm going to try to have the installer take care of for you.

That said, if you don't want to do that, an you're not using a IPTV device, you can probably just copy your npvr.db3/config.xml from NextPVR v4, and it'll up date the database and config.

I'm finally getting around to trying the move from V4 to V5 again, as there are zero scheduled recordings this weekend. Wink So far I'm just lost. Can I import files from V4 to get V5 configured or do I have to manually go through all of the devices, channels, etc.

I was planning to document this for the wiki, but all I have so far is lots of questions. Here are my notes so far:

Channels - Can I import or copy my list of channels from V4 to V5? SD shows a huge list of channels from my cable provider, most of which we don't subscribe to or don't ever watch. I long ago disabled most of them, so my V4 guide only consists of channels that we actually watch. I don't relish the thought of manually unchecking them all again, especially not in the tiny scrolling area that comes up in the web interface.

Where do config.xml and npvr.db3 need to be copied to in V5? I tried copying them to C:\Program Files\NextPVR\ and C:\Program Files\NextPVR\data, but neither result in the info showing up in NPVR. Am I missing a step?

Comskip - Does it need to move to the new folder structure? (It used to live at C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Comskip, but NPVR is now at C:\Program Files\NextPVR\data) Where does V5 expect to find it, so that the script will run?

I'm sure that I'll have more questions as I go, but I hope to be able to create a page for the Wiki that will help others make the move to V5 with as little pain as possible. Smile

Pointers in scripts need to be updated. PostProcessing.bat, PostUpdateEPG.bat, UpdateEPG.bat

Change pointer for NScriptHelper in PostUpdateEPG.bat from :\"program files (x86)"\npvr\nscripthelper.exe to ???

Depend on your tuner, some devices can be migrated.

Channels why not use the top left untick both to remove them all and add what you want, that is what I do.

You don't have to move comskip but that means keeping two nextpvr folders and could be more confusing for support than necessary.

Recordings can be migrated with a copy, and I have a utility that will quick copy the data base entries over if needed.

You are on the right path for scripts.

NScripthelper usage and commands are a bit different and.

what I did : put npvr.db3 and config.xml under C:/Users/Public/NPVR-data (where is the NextPVR.exe for the deskstop app. With this I kept all prgrammtaions :recordign, channels, devices
all scripts under : C:/Users/Public/NPVR-data/scripts
NscriptHelper has changed, now it is a dll which request dotnet 3.1 to be installed.
Up to now I am not able to make the -Remname option to work correctly (like in v4)
My main server is still in v4, I am testing on an other machine before switching

Thanks all!

My tuner is an HD HomeRun Prime. Copying config.xml and npvr.db3 to the C:/Users/Public/NPVR-data/ folder now has V5 showing my TV Guide and Recordings. However, the folders for Video, Music and Picture didn't get updated, but that's easy to update manually in Settings -> Media Folders from the NextPVR client screen. (I had to restart the NPVR client before it saw the changes I made).

I didn't know about the C:/Users/Public/NPVR-data/ location. Somewhat confusing since there is also a C:/Program Files/NextPVR/data folder. I was adding scripts to the latter since it also has a scripts folder.

I have now copied the Comskip folder to C:/Users/Public/NPVR-data/Comskip. Next I'll need to edit the PostProcessing.bat file to point to the new location.
Does the line in PostProcessing.bat "set NSHelper=C:\"program files (x86)"\npvr\nscripthelper.exe" get changed to "set NSHelper=C:/Program Files/NextPVR/nscripthelper.dll" now?
