Thx.

Version 5 install info is also dated.  Is this the best source?  https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=59388

If you see your tuners it is running.

So I guess I'll try to find some time today to work on installing 5. Service stopped again last night, no warning, nothing comes up in the tray, guess the idea is to constantly go over and check to see if it's running? That seems a bit ridiculous. I did upload the log files, but don't see that anyone provided any input from them.

Green button support is more the OS level.

There is a tray app for the server and also a Windows gadget that shows the status on any PC

I hope there is equivalent in current version: Idea
Presentation and multimedia applications must call the SetThreadExecutionState function with ES_DISPLAY_REQUIRED so that the system will know that it should not put the display device to sleep.

All versions of NextPVR already do this. It used to stop Windows thinking the machine is idle and going to sleep. This does not stop the machine from shutting down when the user explicitly tells it to shutdown/restart/standby.

Check that your config.xml has <BlockShutdownWhileRecording>true</BlockShutdownWhileRecording> in the <Recording> section.

It only works when the tray app is running.

What about this?

Open Services. msc, double-click on the service to open the Properties of the service, there is a Recovery tab and those settings should allow you to restart the service upon failure.

Maybe there should be an option to limit number of (duplicate?) wake up requests to current day or up to 12h?

Code:
[DEBUG][9] Requesting wake up for 'Recording[...]' at 3/16/2020 6:26 PM
[DEBUG][9] Requesting wake up for 'Recording[...]' at 3/16/2020 6:25 PM
+ 7:56 PM and 7:55 PM

Normally, we'd see a "This program is preventing Windows from shutting down" message instead of the new "1 Virtual Machine is in use".How does VMWare do this?

NextPVR doesn't currently try to limit it in this way because there always situations like the user is going away for a couple of weeks, but wants to record something next week.

ShutdownBlockReasonCreate
If you're got <BlockShutdownWhileRecording> enabled, ShutdownBlockReasonCreate and a couple of other things are used to stop it shutting down.
