I am having a play with nextpvr v5 and have scanned in my channels ok.  I was wondering if there is a quick way of selecting the channels for my area and applying the freesat channel numbers and groups etc?  Just started renumbering the channels and its going to take a while doing it 1 by 1...

Appreciate any help here to reduce cycles in the initial setup?

Thanks!

Hi

Change the channel numbers before editing the EPG database to to insert Freesat as the EPG source.

If you insert the EPG  source as Freesat in the database and then change the channel number it will loose the  Freesat EPGsetting  and  you will  need to edit the database again .

It may be quicker to edit the channel numbers directly in the database but please save a copy of the npvr.db3 file asa a precaution before starting the edit.

There is no easy way but a start is to delete all the encrypted transponder in the 28.2E ini file using info from Kingofsat which will reduce the count from around 100 to less than 50. You can also delete transponders that have no channels of interest. Its easy to identify the BBC regional variation as it is included in the name but all the ITV channels regions have the same name. The only way to select the correct region is by "Service ID" which can be found on Kingofsat or https://www.rxtvlog.com/p/itvstvutv-sate...uning.html

TVheadend uses "Bouquets" to select the correct regional variations for your location. I expect it uses the same info that is used when you enter your postcode when installing a Freesat box. I prefer to use TVheadend and client on Kodi for live TV on a RPi.

I dont use the Freesat channel numbers but group the BBC channels first, the ITV channels, them Channel 4s, then Channel5s. Next I have group of favourite "other" channels, then News channels then the rest I am unlikely ever to record!

I use the method JCJefferies suggests to edit and reduce the 28.2E ini before scanning. I works well for me.

If someone wants to use the eval version of tscapture (https://tscapture.com) to capture a 1 minute full transport stream from a freesat channel, I'll look into adding support for this freesat specific stuff.

What are names of some of the channel groups you'd expect it to automatically find within the broadcast?

Do you really mean the stream from a "Freesat Channel" or do you mean the Freesat EPG data stream. The clear channels on the various transponders are nothing to do with Freesat and are shared with Sky and anyone with a free to air receiver. Freesat just supply the EPG for any channel that pays the fee and stream if from their transponder!

For many years I have used EPG Collector to extract the EPG data from the EPG transponder. At the time it was the only way to access the uniqueID for each programme to avoid duplicate recordings. Does Freesat EPG mode populate the uniqueID field in the database.

Any freesat channel should do. This isn't related to EPG information, so doesn't need to come from that EPG frequency. I'm just wanting to look at the metadata in these streams (like the bouquets and NIT etc), to see if I can find region specific information and channel numbers.

Not sure which you wanted as you mentioned "Full Transport" and "Freesat Channel" so did both!

Full Transport of Astra 28.2E Frequency 10773.00. Among others contains four BBC One regional variations

Transport stream of BBC One West
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wLkUAF...amR7m8__JL

Only BBC One and ITV are fully rationalised for local news but some other are rationalised for adverts. Looking at TVheadend I am using the Freesat Bouquet "England HD: West/West" which selects BBC West and ITV West but there seem to be options to mix BBC and ITV regions.

Several days ago I came across a post somewhere relating to OpenViX and Freesat Bouquet. I just did a Google search on "Freesat Bouquet" and there seems to be numerous posts about setting up Enigma 2 and OpenViX using Bouquets some of which may help you understand the subject.

Thanks.

I was just meaning in TSCapture, you could select 'full transport stream' then record a minute from any freesat channel (which would capture everything on that frequency, including the other channels on that same frequency)

I can't see a bouquet with that name. I can see these sky bouquets:

Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 1 - DTH England
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 2 - DTH Scotland
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 3 - DTH Wales
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 4 - DTH Other
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 5 - HD England
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 6 - HD Scotland
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 7 - HD Wales
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 8 - HD Other
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 9 - Commercial England
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 10 - Commercial Scotland
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 11 - Commercial Wales
Bouquet Name: BSkyB Bouquet 12 - Commercial Other

Ok, I'll have a read.
