So I tried Automerge after re-reading the pages you sent - it deleted the channels with the content and left the old empty ones!

I will re-scan for channels and then update the EPG once more and then manually delete the empty ones and see what happens - unless someone can suggest a better strategy.

Obviously, how it behaves moving forward is my main concern in terms of duplicating channels, merging the correct ones etc etc

I will post back later with results

Is that likely a function of the feed config being changed by the provider? or maybe something I have done somewhere?
  • Can I simply delete the empty old ones?
  • Will it do the same each EPG update?
  • Does automerge solve this issue?
  • Will Automerge then do so repeatedly on each EPG update?

Scanning for channels and scanning for EPG data are two seperate processes ... You need to get the channels setup as required and then scan for EPG data.

Does (or, did) a scan in Settings -> Devices find all of the channels?  It might be that the quickest route to a tidy result is to go to Settings -> Channels and delete all channels ... Go to Settings -> Devices and rescan on a single tuner ... If channels are missing, you can try to scan All Countries All Regions and if that scan misses channels you can add ScanDropTime to config.xml with a value of 6000 ... https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid543379

Thanks - this sounds like the best way forward.

Re-scanning the channels just added them to the bottom again (with EPG content after a re-scan of EPG) - bbut with the original duplicate empty channels still there.

Will report back.

OK - thanks for your help - we now have a new set of channels (different order to before) and the EPG content for those channels.

2 follow up questions please -

1 - Does the order of channels change often (in anyone's experience) and is it likely to cause similar issues in future or will nextPVR handle it?

2 - Still no genres in the search box. (there were none in the database when I looked earlier)

They are in the feed I believe,as TVHeadend found them (unless it used some kind of external/3rd party list to match them)

Any suggestions to resolving this please?

Thanks

NextPVR should find channel numbers during the scan and channels should be the same as on a TV e.g. 1 for BBC1 and 3 for ITV and so on

But NextPVR can struggle to get info during a scan if the signal is weak.  That appears to be what is happening here.

NextPVR should handle changes during future scans but results may not be as expected if the signal is weak.

The genre for Money for Nothing is shown is "Reality" (in square brackets) in the screenshot here ... https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/web...recordings

Do you see anything similar in the show details popup?

Apologies ... that value is something completely different.  I missed your comment that the genre values are missing from the database.

I suggest that you start a new thread specifically regarding OTA EPG and genres.

Do an EPG update ... look in the nrecord.log to seee the frequency that the EPG data is coming from ... use the eval version of TScapture to grab a one minute FULL transport stream for a channel on the EPG frequency  ... https://www.tscapture.com/ ... put the NextPVR logs, a copy of your database and the TScapture output on a cloud server and post a link.

We do live near the edge of transmission reach (and beyond the next) but the main TV/Humax PVR work fine. The DVB dongle is on a branch from the splitter/booster that is longer. Will investigate putting another booster between the two.
I have to use auto-Default when scanning for channels, as picking the specific transmitter only uses certsin frequencies that do not show up any channels.
