Was familiarizing myself some more with GB-PVR and decided to try playing a DVD. The DVD plays fine and with a little trial and error (i.e. button mashing every button), discovered that the Blue button on my Hauppauge remote takes me to the main menu and that the OK, FFWD, RWD and skip buttons seem to work as expected.

However, I was wondering if it's possible to control the DVD menu using the remote. None of the buttons on the remote seem to control the cursor on the screen so, short of using the mouse, it doesn't appear that I can select things such as Scene Selections and Bonus Features.

I thought I could hack the irremote.ini file and add in some directional controls (somehow), but I see that GB-PVR has commands for all the buttons already. I don't think that one can overload button functions so I'm not sure if this is feasible (although I do notice that WinTV has multiple entries; can I do the same thing for GB-PVR?). Is there any way to control the DVD's Menu using the remote?

That said, I was wondering how DVD playback is done. Does GB-PVR call on another application to do the DVD Playback? If so, then would it be possible for me to program in button controls for that other application using the irremote.ini file to do the things I'd like it to do (for sure, basic things like move the cursor left, right, up, and down and perhaps more advanced things like Zoom, Subtitles, Audio, etc)? Don't mind doing the work myself, just need a little nudge in the right direction.

The direction buttons (ch+- and vol+-) on the silver Hauppauge remote navigate the dvd menus. It sometimes get stuck and/or jumps in the menu, but pushing some random directions usualy get's it back on track [Image: smile.gif]

Are you sure? When I try to do it, the CH buttons have no effect and the VOL buttons adjust the volume. I've tried all types of discs too. What's your default DVD Player software and what does your irremote.ini file look like? Mine is Windows Media Player, which may or may not be the culprit.

BTW, I'm just using the regular IR software, I'm not using Girder or anything like that.

When you're at the DVD's menus (Ctrl-B or the blue button gets you there), then the silver Hauppauge remote direction keys (which double as CH+/- VOL+/-) should navigate between the menu options.

Weirdness. Ok, so it does look like the arrow buttons on the remote control the menu cursor. The reason I thought it didn't was because the cursor wasn't being displayed on the screen so it looked like when I pressed the directional buttons, nothing was happening. The kicker was that I was using the NVIDIA decoders (from NVDVD) at the time. I've since installed PowerDVD 5.0, used those decoders (and for good measure, set that application as my default DVD Player) and now I can see the menu cursor. These NVIDIA decoders seem to not work nicely with GB-PVR; off the hard drive they go.

However, I'm now getting another weird bug. It seems that when I exit watching a DVD (either by pressing the Stop button or the Menu button on the remote), sometimes my entire TV display/Windows environment becomes Black & White and I have to reboot my machine to get the color back. Not sure if it's a video card or video driver thing, but it's sure weird.

Ah, well, thanks all for the help!
