After upgrade from 5.0.7 to 5.0.8, neither presence of "<new />" or lack of "<previously-shown />" in xmltv.xml is recognized as identifying "New" episodes in the guide or for recurring recordings.

It looks like the <new/> tag should do it. You might have to supply a sample xmltv file so I can check it out here.

There is little value in sharing private links since I for one will not go through the trouble of asking but that is typical for many XMLTV and OTA source so you need to untick the option Show New in Guide.
