I'm recording some series.

After some time you want to trim the files down, maybe transcode etc, migrate them to something like Jellyfin etc.

But what is the best way to be able to do this without leaving all the original recorded files for NextPVR to be aware of what has been recorded already?

Can you just leave the XML files behind? Or does the video file also have to remain?

I know I could test this to find out, but it can be a fairly arduous task given I'm not sure how NextPVR manages this in the first place, and waiting for repeat recording opportunities to come up.

For example, assuming I'd recorded The Simpsons and had about 200 episodes, and removed them all, but wanted to pick up straggler episodes I didn't have/get recorded... how do I go about making NextPVR aware of what I do/did have recorded, so it doesn't grab them all again?

Is it using UID inside the XML files? Or the XML file name? Or combinations of metadata/filenames?

Many thanks for any help!

The unique episode ID is metadata based on the EPG you use. There is no need to keep any file. When you delete an episode via NextPVR that ID is stored in the database and it won't re-record it while it is there. Unfortunately the database is purged after an unrealistic short time for collectors. Increase the days here in config.xml <DeletionHistoryDays>90</DeletionHistoryDays> I use a huge number When you remove the file manually outside NextPVR, NextPVR will delete the file and (I assume) update the deletion history.

If you all use the Jellyfish addon then you don't need to do any preparation.

Thank you, that seems like the perfect solution for now. Extend the deletion date to a very long time, and then delete via the NPVR UI.

I'll dig around in the database and see what I can see with regards IDs stored.

It'd be really handy if there was a way to have NPVR look at the JF libraries and auto-skip content already present.

In the end I can always manually undertake these jobs every week or two, just going into scheduled recordings and cancelling the episodes I already have.

I'm not having JF talk to NPVR directly via any addons etc. I think I did try NPVR in JF some years ago but wasn't happy. I've found they're better both just doing their own thing since everything always needs trimming/tweaking before putting across into the library.

There probably is a way to automate the delete folder table like I do for NextTool does with recordings but I support bring things into NextPVR libraries not Jellyfin so I am not interested in that aspect.
