NPVR Version 5.08.200823

We are having trouble with the time zone displayed in the Web App, - both the Guide and the Scheduler. The Web App is running under Edge/Chrome on a Windows 10 machine. Both are the latest versions.

The web app displays the time offset by one hour. This may be a daylight time issue as the correct time here is Pacific Daylight Time (UTC-7). Pacific Standard Time is UTC-8. The time in the Web App is UTC-8.

I understand through my research that the browser time can be manipulated via Javascript by websites and I believe that's what may be happening here.

The attached pictures show the recording time of a scheduled program in the Web App and the Desktop App running side-by-side on the server which also indicates its own correct time. Attached is also a picture of N-Lite running on a client machine showing the correct time.

If you click on a show in the web app guide page, it'll show the details in a popup. Below the title, does it show the correct times?

On that screen, it's basically asking your browser to convert the UTC times to local time, and it looks like your browser is getting it wrong. It is probably something to do with your machine settings, or browser settings, which isn't set to handle daylight savings or something. We're also not seeing other reports of this, which doubly makes it likely to be something specific to the setup of your machine.

Yes, - numerous times.

This problem has existed since installation, - through numerous reboots.

We saw somewhere that any UTC offsets, including Daylight Savings, in Chrome must be written into your app for reliable operation as the native chrome time offset routines have bugs. Also, you can manually set the browser time in Chrome but the Edge/Chrome appears to not have that setting.

This only affects the NPVR Web App display. Note that the example used started recording at the correct time, - 1400 in spite of the app displaying 1300.

Here is a screenshot from another website (https://mybrowserinfo.com/). It also shows the browser time is off by 1 hour (UTC-8 not UTC-7). This was done from a different computer that also uses the Edge/Chrome browser.

So if Edge if it is not just NextPVR why is it a NextPVR problem? I'd check the timezone in BIOS especially if you dual boot linux.

Edit I just set my time to Vancouver and NextPVR and mybrowser.info times are correct.

Okay, I have thoroughly researched this and indeed it is a bug in the Blink version of the Chrome Browser. Blink is the version which drives MS Edge.

Here is the Chrome bug report: Issue 854201: Windows time zone : "DST off" is not respected.
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/iss...ight&can=2

You will note the references to DST switched off in windows and the browser not picking that up.

That is exactly the situation here. The time here is UTC-7 year round. There is no daylight time so Windows "DST off" is activated in all our machines.

It is a problem that only exists in areas with standard time year round and the Chrome browser.

There is a work-around. With the Chrome extension "Change Timezone (Time Shift)" you can set the browser time zone to anything you like.

I have now loaded this extension and the browser time, and thus the NPVR Web App time are correct.

Does it work better if you adjust DST off is set to on?

Nothing works properly with DST on. This would upset the computer time. It is actually "greyed out" as Windows recognizes the year-round standard time here.

We do not use DST here. As I said before, "UTC-7 year round".

As the Chrome bug report says, it is a Chrome problem. Chrome does not follow the setting of the Windows DST switch.

I'm just pleased to hear it's not a NextPVR problem Big Grin
