Fresh install, desktop client has no OSD/controls

Setting up NextPVR on new hardware, all's working well so far apart from the desktop client which itself is fine until watching a recording or live TV where I don't get any on screen display (play bar and controls, etc).

Basic keyboard controls work (left/right arrows, space bar), BUT stop working after trying something like Ctrl-X or Ctrl-B.  I can use the mouse to get the right-click menu up and everything within that seems to work.  I have to press Escape to get back to the menu.

Version installed is: Version: 5.0.9.201026  

Any ideas?

Ctrl-B is not what you think it is did you try Alt-B?

There is something wrong with the EVR video renderer on your machine. You'd either need to google for clues on how to fix EVR on your machine, or maybe try VMR9 video renderer instead.

What are the keyboard shortcuts for the v5 client then?  Was aiming "Show info bar and timeline", but anyhow Alt-B doesn't do anything (but at last doesn't stop even spacebar play/pause working).

Thanks, switching to VMR9 does indeed fix this.  Well almost perfect, mouse click interaction with the on screen controls and time bar isn't working... that's not a showstopper but using the mouse is still the quickest/easiest way to skip to the a specific point in the recording on the occasion that is needed.

Will look into the EVR issue maybe later, must be missing something I had installed on the previous machine.  Any disadvantages to VMR9?

EVR is the more modern approach, if you have an new computer it should work. I'd focus on getting the drivers etc work properly.
