OK. PreStartup.bat is disabled.(read renamed)

I ran Update EPG which resulted in the following summary:

EPG Update complete. [129236 inserted, 0 updated, 811 skipped]

Don't know what skipped records mean but there are still no listings for the locast group. 

So...
- deleted the channels from the locast device.
- rescanned channels.
- performed Auto Map
- ran Update EPG : EPG Update complete. [129236 inserted, 0 updated, 811 skipped] (skipped?)

Still no listings for the locast group.

Did I miss a step?

 ... Is the xmltv file out of date ... Does it have shows for yesterday?  ... What happens if you do python locast.py xmltv?

On one of our previous posts when you did the install I saw this "XMLTV file previously added"

The install option only creates this for 24 hours and doesn't overwrite it so maybe it is simply stale.

If you want to grab a weeks work run the command that would be in UpdateEPG.bat if you aren't using SD

python c:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\scripts\locast\locast.py xmltv

OK. I tried adding an SD lineup for locast but it isn't offered in my zip code. So...

Does the Python call retrieve only one week of listings? Can that be changed?

Locast only provide one week of data but it's free.

Also Locast isn't a TV service it is pseudo OTA. With SD you should be able to use your local US-OTA-67791 lineup, since it is designed for local OTA users. You haven't added that, you just have your cable lineup. If that doesn't do a good automap try adding OTA for 10001

Also is playback working now?

WE HAVE LIFTOFF! Yes...playback is good with picture and sound.

Lotsa a steps to get it working and I hope I have them in the right order. Seems a lot of the problems were caused by NextPVR running with a different set of credentials than my normal login which was used to install. I resist changing NextPVR's creds because I never know what it will break.

I'd prefer using SD for listings so I'll muck around with your suggestion, Graham.

Now to probe the usefulness of locast.org.

For sure the main problem is installing python for "Local System" use and it was compounded because you had python preinstalled for your user account use. I will try on my wife's clean laptop to see if I can do document this to make it as easy as linux.

Otherwise the extra install should be as simple as python locast.py install

You helped push me to add support for non standard setups to my generic nextpvr library so testing that was a big help. Thanks.

You "pioneers" make it easier for others. At least now I have enough enough information to guide users less skilled in NextPVR. Even uploading logs has proven to be challenging for some and you two were so prompt.

How is it working for you? Do you think it is a viable alternative to a tuner?

Glad I could be of help, Martin. I am squirrelly about the cable card rumors.

Now, the locast channels work perfectly with the web app. But with the desktop app, which I prefer, not so much. Takes a little longer to get a picture and when playback video is visible, playback is one pause after another like only very small chunks of data are being sent. Playback is not watchable.

Do the logs have some clues about what's happening? Playback was attempted with WCBS around 12:05p.
